Trevor Kuntar netted his first NCAA goal and Spencer Knight earned his sixth career shutout
BOSTON – Freshman Trevor Kuntar collected his first career goal and Spencer Knight posted his sixth career shutout in a 3-0 blanking of No. 12 Providence for second-ranked Boston College on Friday night at Kelley Rink.
The Eagles improved to 3-0-0 to begin the new season and remain unbeaten in their last 12 games dating back to last season (11-0-1).
Knight stopped all 30 Providence shots he faced for the shutout, tying Joe Carroll and Parker Milner for seventh all-time in career shutouts at Boston College. The sophomore made exactly half of his 30 saves in the first period.
Rookie Nikita Nesterenko netted his second goal of the year to extend the lead in the third, while Mike Hardman added his third tally on an empty-netter in the closing seconds. Matt Boldy and Logan Hutsko each registered his fourth assist of the young season.
Senior Michael Karow had three blocked shots on the same shift late in the third period to help preserve the win. As a team, BC blocked 14 PC shots in the victory.
Boston College was a perfect 2-for-2 on the penalty kill but came up empty on four power play chances.
SCORING SUMMARY
2nd 19:39, BC (1-0) | Colby Ambrosio laid the puck wide for Boldy along the right wing and he fluttered a backhand pass to Kuntar at the left doorstep. The rookie's initial attempt was stopped by Gabe Mollot-Hill, but he located the rebound and batted it home inside the left post.
3rd 7:36, BC (2-0) | Hutsko pulled up in the right wing circle and dropped a pass to a trailing Jack McBain, who picked out Nesterenko at the top of the crease for a backhand finish.
3rd 19:49, BC (3-0) | Hardman picked off a Providence clear at the left point and quickly fired a shot into an empty Friars net to seal the win.
