
Eagles, Friars Ready to Meet for Two-Game Series

The No. 7/8 Boston College women’s hockey team is set to face Providence College this weekend in a home-and-home series.
Friday's contest between the Eagles and Friars will air live on NESN. All games this season will be made available across the U.S. and internationally on SportsLive, while all games televised on NESN and NESN+ and other select matchups will also be made available on CBSSports.com and the CBS Sports app outside of New England.

WHAT'S ON TAP
• The No. 7/8 Boston College women's hockey team and Providence will play a home-and-home series this weekend, facing off at Kelley Rink on Friday afternoon before reconvening at Schneider Arena on Saturday.
• The Eagles come into the weekend 2-0-0 after a two-game series with New Hampshire while the Friars are 1-0-1 after a two-game series against UConn.
• Friday's tilt will air on NESN while Saturday's will be on SportsLive.
ABOUT BOSTON COLLEGE
• In 2019-20, the Eagles went 17-16-3 overall and 14-11-2 in Hockey East to finish fourth in the standings and host a Hockey East playoff series for the eighth consecutive year.
• Four of BC's top five scorers and eight of the top 10 from a season ago are back, including returning leading scorer and 2019-20 National Rookie of the Year Hannah Bilka, who put up a team-leading 37 points on 14 goals and 23 assists as a freshman.
• Additionally, Kelly Browne (13-23-36) and Cayla Barnes (6-17-23) return after putting up career-highs as sophomores.
• Barnes and Bilka were named Hockey East Second Team All-Stars last year while Browne earned a spot on the Hockey East Third Team ... Bilka and Alexie Guay earned spots on the conference all-rookie team.
ABOUT PROVIDENCE
• The Friars went 18-14-4 overall in 2019-20 with a mark of 15-10-2 in Hockey East play ... Sara Hjalmarsson is back after leading the team with 28 points on 17 goals and 11 assists.
• On the blue line, Providence returns five of seven defenders including Lauren DeBlois who was a member of the all-rookie team ... she recorded 23 points on six goals and 17 assists, third most on the team.
• Last weekend, Providence opened up the season with a 6-2 win and 1-1- tie against UConn ... goaltender Sandra Abstreiter was named the Hockey East Defensive Player of the Week after stopping 54 of 57 shots that she saw on the weekend.
• Matt Kelly is in his third year as head coach of the Friars ... PC was tabbed fifth in the Hockey East Preseason Coaches' Poll.
A WIN WOULD . . .
• Put BC's overall record in the series with PC at 39-38-3 with a mark of 32-7-3 under head coach Katie Crowley.
• Move BC's all-time record to 468-350-80.
• Give head coach Katie Crowley an overall record of 324-113-51 and 208-62-29 in Hockey East play.
SERIES NOTES
• Boston College is 38-38-3 all-time against Providence since elevating to Division I status for the 1995-96 season.
• BC is 19-17-2 record at Kelley Rink and 17-19-1 in games played at Schneider Arena on top of its 2-2-0 mark in neutral-site games.
• Ten of BC's have at least one career point against the Friars ... Maegan Beres is the Eagles' leading scorer against Providence, putting up six points with six assists in nine career games.
• Jillian Fey potted her first career game-winning goal in BC's 2-1 overtime win last season on Jan. 24, 2020 ... Fey also recorded her first career multi-point game against Providence with two helpers in a 5-2 in on Nov. 2, 2019.
• Caroline DiFiore picked up one goal and one assist in a 5-2 win over Providence on Nov. 2, 2019.
• Katie Crowley has a 31-7-3 career mark against the Friars
• The Eagles opened up the 2020-21 season with a two-win weekend against New Hampshire ... BC topped UNH 6-2 on Nov. 20 in Durham before a 4-1 in at Kelley Rink on Nov. 21.
• In Friday's road win, rookie Gaby Roy scored four goals in the game while Savannah Norcross had three assists and 10 total Eagles had points.
• Roy became the 12th player in program history to score four goals in a game and the first BC player to do ever do it in the first game of the season.
• BC's six goals marked the most for the Eagles in a season-opener since a 10-2 win over Syracuse on Oct. 4, 2014.
• Norcross' three helpers marked a single-game career-high in points while Hadley Hartmetz tied her career best with two assists ... Maddy McArthur made 17 stops for her first win of the year.
• The Eagles limited the Wildcats to 19 shots on goal ... it was the first time since Nov. 2, 2019 in a game against Providence that BC limited the opponent to less than 20 shots on goal.
• On Saturday, BC won its eighth consecutive home opener with a 4-1 victory over the Wildcats ... Kelly Pickreign stopped 29 of 30 shots while Jillian Fey scored for the second consecutive game,
• Hannah Bilka potted her first of the year with a short-handed goal while Browne also picked up her first of the year.
• BC went 6-for-6 on the penalty kill on the weekend and had six different goal scorers.
TWO GAMES, SIX SCORERS, 12 POINT-GETTERS
• In Boston College's two-game series with New Hampshire to open the season, the team had six different scorers and 12 different players register a point across the 6-2 and 4-1 wins.
• It marked the first time since the 2014-15 season that the Eagles had six different players score a goal within the first two games of the season.
• It was also the first time since the 2015-16 season that BC had 12 different players register at least one point in the first two games of the season.
GOOD JOB, GABY
• In her first collegiate game - the Eagles' season-opening 6-2 win at UNH - Gaby Roy scored four goals for the program's 12th-ever such game and the first since Kelly Browne scored four goals against UNH on Nov. 1, 2019.
• Roy also became the first first-year NCAA player to record a hat trick in their collegiate debut since Yale's Elle Hartje did it against LIU on Oct. 25, 2019 ... Hartje also had four points in that game as she added an assist.
• The Marshfield, Mass. native is the first DI player, men's or women's, with four goals in their first collegiate game since at least the 2011-12 season.
• Roy is also the first DI women's player to score four goals in the first game of the season since at least the 2011-12 season.
• She is also the fourth BC rookie in the last four years to record a four-goal game (Hannah Bilka, Daryl Watts, Delaney Belinskas).
• Roy added her first career assist on Nov. 21 in the home-opening win over UNH ... she was named the Hockey East Player of the Week for her five-point weekend.
FRESHMEN FIRSTS
• Through the first two games of the season, four of BC's rookies have earned at least one point.
• Gaby Roy picked up her first four career goals against UNH on Nov. 20 and then earned her first career assist the next day.
• Olivia O'Brien and Caroline Goffredo picked up their first career assists in that Nov. 20 game against the Wildcats while Natalie Tulchinsky earned her first career helper on Nov. 21, also against UNH.
• Seven of BC's rookies made their collegiate debuts in the season-opener at UNH on Nov. 21.
A NOTE ON FOUR-GOAL GAMES
• Gaby Roy scored four goals in her collegiate debut in the Eagles' season-opening win at UNH on Nov. 20 ... she is the first DI player, men's or women's, with four goals in their first collegiate game since at least the 2011-12 season.
• Roy became the fourth BC rookie in the last five seasons to record a four-goal game, following in the footsteps of Hannah Bilka (2019-20), Daryl Watts (2017-18) and Delaney Belinskas (2016-17).
• Of the 12 four-goal games in program history, five have now been scored by first-year players (Erin Magee, 1995-96).
• There were four, four-goal games in Division I women's hockey during the 2019-20 season with the Eagles owning two of them ... Hannah Bilka recorded the program's 10th four-goal game at Holy Cross on Oct. 3, 2019 and then Kelly Browne got the 11th with a four-goal outing against UNH on Nov. 1, 2019.
• Of the 15 four-goal games since the beginning of the 2017-18 season, the Eagles can claim five of them and of the 19 such games since the beginning of the 2016-17 season that number is six for BC.
