WAKFIELD, Mass. – Boston College women's hockey freshman Gaby Roy has been named the Hockey East Player of the Week after racking up five points on four goals and one assist in a two-win, season-opening weekend for the Eagles.
Â
In Friday's 6-2 win at New Hampshire, Roy scored four goals in her collegiate debut. She scored the game's first goal – and first career power-play goal – midway through the second period and then added her second tally – and first career game-winning goal – later in the period. The Marshfield, Mass. native earned the hat trick midway through the third period and then potted an empty-net goal in the final minutes of play.
Â
It was the 12th four-goal game in program history. It's the fifth four-goal game by a first-year BC player and fourth in the last four years.
Roy is the first first-year NCAA player to record a hat trick in their collegiate debut since Yale's Elle Hartje did it against LIU on Oct. 25, 2019. Roy is the first player, men's or women's, with four goals in their first collegiate game since at least the 2011-12 season and she is the first women's player to record four goals in the first game of the season since at least the 2011-12 season.
Â
In a 4-1 home-opening win over UNH on Saturday, Roy earned an assist on the first goal of the game. Roy finished the weekend a plus-5 with nine shots on goal.
