No. 2 Eagles Face New Hampshire to Open New Campaign

BOSTON – Reigning Hockey East regular season champion Boston College begins its 99th season of men's hockey on Friday night as it welcomes New Hampshire to Kelley Rink at 7 p.m. The schools close out the season-opening home-and-home series on Saturday at 7 p.m. in Durham.
Both games will be televised on NESN and streamed on SportsLive (CollegeSportsLive.com) outside New England. Radio coverage begins at 6:45 p.m. both nights on WEEI 850-AM and BCEagles.com with Jon Rish and Andy Powers.
Neither team has played since facing one another in a home-and-home back on March 6-7 to close the 2019-20 regular season, before COVID-19 forced the cancellation of the postseason. Boston College home games at Conte Forum will be held without fans as a result of COVID-19.
PRESEASON FAVORITE
• For the third straight season and fourth time in the last six years, Boston College has been selected as the preseason favorite in Hockey East according to the Coaches' Poll
• The Eagles received eight of a possible 11 first place votes and finished with a total of 95 points in the annual poll
• Massachusetts earned a pair of first place votes and ranked second overall with 87 points, while Providence was tabbed third with 77 points
• UMass Lowell (71) finished fourth in the poll and garnered the final first place vote, while Northeastern (68) and Boston University (55) ranked fifth and sixth respectively
• UConn (48), UNH (44), Maine (27), Merrimack (23) and Vermont (10) rounded out the poll
SEASON IN REVIEW
• The Eagles saw their 2019-20 season come to a premature end due to COVID-19 prior to their Hockey East Quarterfinal series with 8-seed Providence in March
• BC (8-0-1) closed the season with the second-longest unbeaten streak in the nation

TROPHY SEASON
• BC defeated rival Boston University 4-1 in the Battle of Comm Ave on Feb. 29 at Agganis Arena to clinch its 17th Regular Season Championship in the 36-year history of Hockey East
• BC earned its fourth title in the last five years and its second outright title in the last three seasons; Boston College earned a share of the crown in both 2016 and 2017
• The Eagles have now won a league-record 17 Regular Season Championships
GOALS GALORE
• BC finished last season second nationally in scoring offense behind only Minnesota State with 4.0 goals per game
• With 10 goals against Northeastern on Feb. 21, BC became the fourth Division I team and first in Hockey East to score at least 10 in a single game during the 2019-20 campaign
• The Eagles ranked third in the country in scoring margin with a +65 differential
• BC produced at least five goals 12 times last season and went 12-0-0 in those games
THE DARK KNIGHT
• In his remarkable rookie season, Spencer Knight was a top-5 finalist for the Mike Richter Award, a Hockey East Second Team All-Star, and a unanimous pick to the All-Rookie Team
• He was honored with the Norman F. Dailey Award as the team's co-MVP with David Cotton
• Knight won a total of six Hockey East weekly awards and was recognized as the league's Rookie of the Month (November) and Goaltender of the Month (December)
• The netminder was tied for third in the nation with five shutouts and ranked fifth nationally in winning percentage (.727) with a 23-8-2 record in 33 starts
• He was ninth in the country in both GAA (1.97) and SV% (.931)
GOOD LUCK IN CANADA
• The Eagles will be without reigning National Rookie of the Year Alex Newhook through at least New Year's as he competes in Team Canada's World Junior Selection Camp in Alberta
• The camp is scheduled to run from Nov. 16-Dec. 13 in Red Deer ahead of the 2021 IIHF World Junior Championships, set for Dec. 25-Jan. 5 in nearby Edmonton
• A native of St. John's, Newfoundland, Newhook closed last season riding a 12-game point streak (10-13-23) and was named a Hockey East Second Team All-Star
• He became the first player to win both the Hockey East Player and Rookie of the Month awards in more than four years last February (Jack Eichel)
BOLD MOVE
• After scoring just one point in his first 11 collegiate games, Matt Boldy ranked third nationally in scoring by a freshman after New Year's with 23 points in 19 games
• Boldy was second nationally in scoring during the month of February (behind Newhook) with 16 points and was named the runner-up for Hockey East Rookie of the Month
• The 2019 first round pick had three multi-goal performances in his final eight games
• Overall, he ranked fourth in scoring among league rookies with 26 points and led all freshmen with 101 shots on goal
LOGAN LOADS UP
• Logan Hutsko ranked third in Hockey East last year in goals per game with 19 in 30 contests
• He was also tied for second in the league with four game-winning goals
• The junior had at least one point in all but four of his games last season
• The Tampa native finished tied for 11th in Hockey East with a +17 rating on the year
STREAKY EAGS
• BC out-scored opponents 44-15 during its nine-game unbeaten streak to close 2019-20
• Boston College's offense averaged nearly five goals per game during the streak
• Alex Newhook (7-11-18) and Matt Boldy (7-8-15) combined for 33 points and a +30 rating
• In a personal nine-game unbeaten streak, Spencer Knight owned a 1.69 GAA and a .942 SV%

• Three Eagles were selected in the 2020 NHL Draft as BC matched the longest active streak in the nation, having at least one player drafted for the 25th consecutive season
• Forward Trevor Kuntar was taken by the Boston Bruins with the 89th overall pick in the third round; he became the first BC player drafted by the Bruins since 2013 (Ryan Fitzgerald)
• Defenseman Eamon Powell and forward Colby Ambrosio heard their names called just two picks apart in the fourth round; Powell went 116th overall to the Stanley Cup champion Tampa Bay Lightning, while Ambrosio was selected 118th by the Colorado Avalanche
• BC enters the new season with 12 NHL draft picks on its roster, tied for second in the nation
