Eagles Picked Third in Hockey East Preseason Coaches' Poll

The Boston College women’s hockey team was picked to finish third in the Hockey East Preseason Coaches’ Poll, which was released Friday by the league.
WAKEFIELD, Mass. – The Boston College women's hockey team was picked to finish third in the Hockey East Preseason Coaches' Poll, which was released Friday by the league.

Northeastern was picked to finish first with 90 points and nine first-place votes while Boston University was tabbed second with 82 points and the other first-place vote. Behind BC's 71 points for third place came UConn (64), Providence (56), New Hampshire (52), Maine (41), Vermont (39), Merrimack (24), and Holy Cross (21).

The Eagles went 17-16-3 overall with a mark of 14-11-2 in Hockey East play last year to finish fourth the standings and host a Hockey East playoffs series for the eighth consecutive year. Four of the team's top five scorers from a season ago are back, including returning leading scorer and 2019-20 National Rookie of the Year Hannah Bilka, who put up up 37 points on 14 goals and 23 assists. Additionally, Kelly Browne (13-23-36) and Cayla Barnes (6-17-23) return after after putting up career-highs as sophomores. Juniors Maddy McArthur and Kelly Pickreign return between the pipes and are joined by two new classmates in Abigail Levy and Kelly Lavelle. Overall, eight of the Eagles' top-10 point getters from 2019-20 return. Barnes and Bilka were named Hockey East Second Team All-Stars while Browne earned a spot on the Hockey East Third Team. Additionally, Bilka and Alexie Guay earned spots on the conference all-rookie team.

Browne, Barnes and senior Maegan Beres will captain the Eagles in 2020-21.

BC opens the 2020-21 season with a game on Friday, Nov. 20 at New Hampshire and then returns home the next day to host the back end of the home-and-home series.
