Five-player class set to join the Eagles in 2021
CHESTNUT HILL, Mass. – Boston College softball head coach Amy Kvilhaug announced Wednesday that five student-athletes have signed National Letters of Intent to play softball for the Eagles beginning in 2021. The five-member recruiting class has two players from Illinois, along with Rhode Island, Florida and California.
Â
Joining the program include OF Kali Case of Palos Heights, Ill., RHP Abby Dunning from Burr Ridge, Ill., OF/1B Darien McDonough of Lincoln, R.I., C/OF Hannah Slike from Chula Vista, Calif. and MIF/UTL Zoe Hines of DeBary, Fla.
Â
"With our incoming class, we've certainly added athleticism, speed, and really good pitching to the program," said Kvilhaug." We are looking for immediate contributions from the entire class. Throughout the pandemic, we haven't had a chance to see them in over a year, however we have kept close tabs virtually and have watched each one grow and improve. The work ethic of this crew is unmatched. This group is super determined to come in, get to work, and really elevate the level for BC Softball. We can't wait for their arrival to BC."
Â
The recruiting class is ranked 21st nationally according to Extra Inning Softball. Â
Â
Â
Kali Case (OF)-Palos Heights, Ill.Â
Coach K on Kali: "Kali is coming off a spectacular summer, and I think she is only going to continue to get better when she arrives. One of the major characteristics we were looking for in the class of 2021 was speed and Kali was a top choice to come in and get it done. She is a lefty slapper and a great center fielder."
Â
Â
Â
Abby Dunning (RHP)-Burr Ridge, Ill.
Coach K on Abby: Abby is one of the top pitchers in the country. I (virtually) watched her strike out 18 batters in a game this summer, against a formidable opponent too. She is a hard throwing righty with the ability to move the ball around the zone and has worked really hard to develop a change."Â
Â
Â
Darien McDonough (OF/1B) - Lincoln, R.I.
Coach K on Darien: "Darien is one of the most meticulous workers I have ever recruited. Her love and desire for improvement in the game of softball is second to none. In addition to wreaking havoc on the bases, she has added the power element to her game and is going to contribute to our offense in so many different ways."Â
Â
Â
Hannah Slike (C/OF) - Chula Vista, Calif.
Coach K on Hannah: "Hannah has experience playing top level softball in Southern California and will be poised to come in and understand what it takes to handle an ACC pitching staff. She has a cannon behind the plate and can also play in the outfield if needed. She will provide us a good offensive punch and can run the bases really well."
Â
Â
Zoe Hines (MIF/UTL) - DeBary, Fla.
Coach K on Zoe: Zoe may have gone under the radar in the recruiting process but I am really glad we landed her. She is a serious competitor, which I love. Zoe is the type of athlete you want up to the plate with the game on the line. Her athleticism will allow her to play pretty much anywhere on the field."
