BC Volleyball Visits Pitt This Weekend

Catch the Eagles on NESN+ (Friday) and ACCNX (Saturday).
CHESTNUT HILL, Mass. -- Boston College volleyball hits the road for its first away matches of the abbreviated fall 2020 slate when its takes on Pittsburgh, Oct. 9 and 10. Friday night's match will be aired on the ACC regional sports affiliates, including NESN+. On Saturday, the action will be streamed on ACCNX.

About the Eagles...
BC is 0-2 after falling to No. 11 Louisville on opening weekend. The Eagles battled in three- and four-set losses to the Cardinals and saw eight players make their collegiate debut, including seven freshmen. Rookie setters Sophia Lambros and Grace Penn shared the responsibility of running coach Jason Kennedy's 6-2 offense. Lambros, the starter, totaled 40 assists (5.71 per set), including a high of 25 in match two. Senior outside hitter Clare Naughton hit .262 and tallied a team-high 23 kills (3.29) per set. She went for 16 on Saturday; her eighth career match with 15 or more. Sophomore middle blocker Gabby McCaa hit a team-high .368 with 11 kills (1.57 per set) and posted a team-leading five blocks (0.71 per set).

Boston College suffered a narrow, 3-0, defeat to No. 3 Pittsburgh at home on Oct. 3, 2019. The Panthers claimed the match by scores of 25-23, 25-22 and 25-23. It marked the Eagles' first ACC loss; dropping to 5-1, while Pitt improved to 6-0. Jewel Strawberry led all players with 14 kills; adding 10 digs. Chinaza Ndee led the Panthers with 12 and Layne Van Buskirk added 10 on a .318 attack rate.

Preseason ACC Honors/Rankings...
Amaka Chukwujekwu was selected to the Preseason All-ACC Team as voted on by the league's coaches. Last season, Chukwujekwu became BC's first All-ACC honoree since 2015 as a Second Team pick. Boston College was predicted to finish eighth by the coaches in the 15-team conference.

BC Class of '24...
The Eagles welcomed 10 players to the squad this season. BC will immediately look for its freshman class to impact the team, particularly at the setter position. Sophia Lambros and Grace Penn will each get an opportunity to guide the Eagle offense. Lambros was a three-time all-conference selection at Rosary Academy (Calif.) and a three-time Junior Nationals qualifier with A4 Volley. Penn totaled more than 2,500 career assists at Notre Dame (Calif.) HS and earned three all-conference selections.
