Three Eagles Selected in 2020 NHL Draft

BOSTON – A trio of Boston College freshmen were selected in the 2020 NHL Draft on Wednesday. BC matched the longest active streak in the nation, having at least one player drafted for the 25th consecutive season.
Forward Trevor Kuntar was the first Eagle off the board, taken by the Boston Bruins with the 89th overall pick in the third round. Kuntar became the first BC player drafted by the Bruins since Ryan Fitzgerald in the fourth round of the 2013 NHL Draft.
Defenseman Eamon Powell and forward Colby Ambrosio heard their names called just two picks apart in the fourth round. Powell went 116th overall to the defending Stanley Cup champion Tampa Bay Lightning, while Ambrosio was selected 118th overall by the Colorado Avalanche.
Powell became the first Eagle taken by the Lightning since Joe Pearce in 2002. Ambrosio joins fellow Avalanche draftees Alex Newhook and Drew Helleson, who were picked in the first and second rounds of the 2019 Draft.
Boston College enters the 2020-21 season with 12 NHL draft picks on its roster.
