COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. – Four current Boston College women's hockey players along with two recent graduates have been invited to the U.S. Women's National Team Evaluation Camp, which will take place Oct. 25-31 at the National Sports Center in Blaine, Minn. The 53-player roster was announced Friday by USA Hockey.
Â
Current Eagles Cayla Barnes, Hannah Bilka, Kelly Browne and Hadley Hartmetz will join Kali Flanagan '19 and Megan Keller '19 at the camp. Of the 54 athletes invited to the training camp, 31 are active NCAA players. BC leads Hockey East with its seven invitees. Â
Â
The camp will be used as part of the selection process for the roster that will represent the U.S. at the 2021 IIHF Women's World Championship.
Â
Barnes, Keller and Flanagan were members of the U.S. squad that claimed gold at the 2018 Winter Olympic Games, while Barnes and Keller were part of the U.S. squad that won a fifth-consecutive gold medal at the 2019 IIHF World Championships.
Â
All six Eagles were invited to the 2019 USA Hockey Women's Winter Training Camp last December, with Bilka and Hartmetz unable to participate. Browne, Barnes, Keller and Flanagan were named to the Rivalry Series roster out of that camp, with Browne making her senior national team debut in the series against Canada. Bilka, Hartmetz and Barnes were members of the U.S. Under-22 Team that faced Canada in a three-game series in August 2019.
Keller and Flanagan have been skating professionally for the PWHPA this past year.
Browne, a captain for BC, set career-highs in points (36), goals (13) and assists (23) during the 2019-20 season. The Hockey East Third Team All-Star finished fourth in the country and first in the conference with 451 face-off wins, becoming the first Eagle to record more than 450 wins at the dot since the 2015-16 season.
Â
Barnes, a captain for the Eagles this year, is coming off a season in which she was named a Hockey East Second Team All-Star and was one of three finalists for Hockey East Player of the Year. She recorded a career-high six goals and 17 assists for 23 points and finished third in the nation with a Hockey East-leading 103 blocked shots.
As a freshman in 2019-20, Hartmetz recorded 15 points on two goals and 13 assists. Her 15Â assists tied for third and her 15 points ranked seventh nationally among rookie blue liners
The 2019-20 National Rookie of the Year and Hockey East Rookie of the Year led all rookies in the country in total points per game (1.13), assists per game (0.71) and shots on goal per game (4.06) during the regular season and tied for first in shots on goal (126). Bilka went on to finish the year with 37 points on 14 goals and 23 assists. Her postseason awards resume also included spots on the USCHO All-Rookie Team, the conference All-Rookie Team and the all-conference Second Team.
