Volleyball on the Road at No. 14 Syracuse This Weekend

Eagles face a top-15 foe for the third weekend in a row.
Boston College volleyball is back on the road this weekend against Syracuse on Oct. 16 and 17. Saturday's match is scheduled for 5 p.m. and will be broadcast on ACCNX.
About the Eagles...
BC is 0-4 after falling to the No. 11 team in the country for the second weekend in a row. The Eagles suffered four- and three-set losses to Pittsburgh on the road. Friday night's match was a competitive, 3-1 decision for the home side. After BC dropped the first 25-9, the Eagles rallied to win the second 25-19 and played the Panthers tough to the finish, including a fourth set that featured 11 ties. Leading the Boston College attack is senior outside hitter Clare Naughton at 2.57 kills per set to go with 1.57 digs per set on the other side of the ball. Sophomore middle blocker Gabby McCaa had a productive weekend at Pitt and is hitting a team-best .296 with 0.93 kills and 1.21 blocks per set. Freshman Anna Murphy stepped into the starting libero position last weekend and leads the Eagles' back row with 2.46 digs per set.
All-Time vs. Cuse...
The Eagles trail the all-time series against the Orange, 7-22. Syracuse has won five in a row with BC's last win a 3-1 decision in 2016. The two teams first met in 1990, Boston College's first varsity season in the Big East; a sweep at home.
Last Time They Met...
BC took Syracuse to five sets in each match-up in 2019. In their final road, regular season match, the Eagles lost in the decisive fifth set, 15-9, after the two teams traded sets with Boston College claiming the first and third. Syracuse outhit BC .214-.079 for the match and posted 21 blocks to the Eagles' eight. Amaka Chukwujekwu posted 12 kills, hit .409 and added five blocks to lead BC. Clare Naughton tallied a double-double with a 10-kill, 10-dig effort. Setter Jane DeJarld added a double-double of her own with 25 assists and 12 digs.
Preseason ACC Honors/Rankings...
Amaka Chukwujekwu was selected to the Preseason All-ACC Team as voted on by the league's coaches. Last season, Chukwujekwu became BC's first All-ACC honoree since 2015 as a Second Team pick. Boston College was predicted to finish eighth by the coaches in the 15-team conference.
BC Class of '24...
The Eagles welcomed 10 players to the squad this season. BC will immediately look for its freshman class to impact the team, particularly at the setter position. Sophia Lambros and Grace Penn will each get an opportunity to guide the Eagle offense. Lambros was a three-time all-conference selection at Rosary Academy (Calif.) and a three-time Junior Nationals qualifier with A4 Volley. Penn totaled more than 2,500 career assists at Notre Dame (Calif.) HS and earned three all-conference selections.
