Eagles pick up ACC road win at Pittsburgh
PITTSBURGH, PA. – Sophomores Marnelle Garraud and Makyala Dickens combined for 44 points to lead Boston College past ACC foe Pittsburgh, 79-70, at the Petersen Events Center on Sunday afternoon.
Boston College improved to 8-6 (1-2 ACC) while Pittsburgh dropped to 3-11 (0-3 ACC).
Dickens finished with a season-high 26 points and eight assists, while Garraud scored eight of her 18 points in the final quarter. Senior Emma Guy pitched in with 11 points and nine boards, while sophomore Taylor Soule added five points and 10 boards. Sophomore Cameron Swartz added 11 points and six rebounds.
Pittsburgh was led by Amber Green with 12 points and Rita Igbokwe had 12 points and five rebounds.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- Pitt had a 10-0 run in the middle of the first quarter to take a 17-13 lead. BC was buoyed by Makayla Dickens with five points and three rebounds as the Eagles shot just 26 percent from the floor.
- The Eagles heated up in the second quarter as Marnelle Garraud sparked an 11-0 run at the as BC took a 24-19 lead with 6:24 to play. The Eagles shot 62 percent from the floor and outscored Pitt 23-18 behind 10 points from Dickens and seven from Garraud.
- BC led 36-35 at the half behind 15 points from Dickens and 10 from Garraud.
- The Eagles opened the third quarter on an 11-2 run as all five players scored. The run was capped off by an Emma Guy bucket as Pitt was forced into a timeout down, 47-37.
- The Panthers responded with a 9-0 run and BC's lead was two points, 50-48. After a timeout, Pitt tied the game at 50-50 on a layup by Amber Brown. Dickens stopped the run with a three-pointer but the Panthers scored at the buzzer and the lead was one point, 57-56.
- Neither team could pull away in the first five minutes of the final quarter. The Eagles finally broke through with a 10-2 run in the final 3:22 behind two three-pointers from Garraud and one from Swartz with 38.6 seconds to play. BC held Pitt zero field goals in the final 3:22 as the Eagles shot 4-for-5 from the floor.
GAME NOTES
- At the half, the Eagles held a 23-19 lead on the boards. BC won the battle of the boards, 41-35. It was the 10th game the Eagles won the rebounding battle. Taylor Soule finished with a team-high 10, while Emma Guy had nine.
- BC shot 10-for-16 (62.5%) in the second quarter. In the final quarter BC shot 57 percent while holding Pitt to 30 percent. BC finished the game shooting 50 percent for the game. It was the fifth time this season the Eagles shot over 50 percent.
- The Eagles had 23 assists on 32 field goals. Makayla Dickens had a team-high eight assists.
- Sophomore Makayla Dickens finished with a season-high 26 points on 11-for-16 shooting from the floor and 4-for-6 from the three-point arc. It is the seventh time this season Dickens has tallied double-figures in points.
- Sophomore Marnelle Garraud scored eight of her 18 points in the final four minutes of the game. Her first three-pointer in the quarter gave BC a three-point lead at 3:43. She hit her final three-pointer at 2:30 to give BC a 74-68 lead. She finished the game 6-for-12 from the floor and 3-for-6 from long range.
- Sophomore Cameron Swartz had 11 points. It was the 10th time Swartz has recorded double-figures in scoring this season. Swartz hit a three-pointer with just under 30 seconds to play which gave BC a 79-69 lead.
- Head Coach Joanna Bernabei-McNamee is now 2-0 at Pittsburgh. In her first season, Boston College defeated Pitt, 59-55.
