Eagles Remain Undefeated With 5-2 Road Win at Yale

NEW HAVEN, Conn. – Yufei Long and Kylie Wilcox knocked off the ITA Fall All-American Champions in doubles on Friday night during a 5-2 road victory for Boston College over Yale at the Cullman-Heyman Tennis Center.
The Eagles remained undefeated at 7-0 heading into their ACC opener, while the Bulldogs dropped to 2-1.
"Great win for our team tonight. Our players are so resilient," said head coach Nigel Bentley. "We have a lot of players not at 100% but we didn't make any excuses. We fought hard. Yale is a strong team and we had to really earn this win on the road."
Long and Wilcox began the match for BC by cruising 6-2 over Sam Martinelli and Jessie Gong, who became the first Ivy League duo to win the ITA All-American doubles title in the fall. Natasha Irani and Hailey Wilcox sealed the doubles point in the No. 3 slot with a 6-4 victory over Rhea Shrivastava and Caroline Dunleavy.
In singles, Long matched up in the No. 1 slot with Martinelli, who finished the fall ranked 33rd in the nation. Long dropped the first set but responded by winning the final two sets 6-1 and 6-4 to pull the upset.
Kylie Wilcox was dominant in second singles, dispensing of Chelsea Kung 6-1, 6-3. Elene Tsokilauri was also a straight set winner at No. 5 over Raissa Lou (7-5, 6-2), while Laura Lopez needed three sets to pull out a win over Rena Lin at No. 4.
Boston College hosts No. 11 Virginia on Sunday (Feb. 2) at 10 a.m. for its ACC opener at the Connell Recreation Center.
