BC picks up third ACC win on the road vs. Georgia Tech.
ATLANTA, Ga. – Boston College took a 7-0 lead in the first quarter and never relinquished the lead as the Eagles earned an ACC road win against Georgia Tech, 55-48, at McCamish Pavilion on Sunday afternoon.
Boston College is now 10-8 and 3-4 in the ACC. The Eagles put a stop to Georgia Tech's three-game win streak. The Yellow Jackets are now 14-4 and 5-2 in the conference.
Sophomore Taylor Soule recorded her fourth double-double of the season with 13 points and 11 rebounds, while senior Emma Guy chipped in with 11 points and four rebounds. Senior Georgia Pineau came off the bench and pitched in with eight points and four rebounds.
Sophomore Makayla Dickens had nine points, six rebounds and three steals, while redshirt sophomore Cameron Swartz returned to action after missing two games and contributed nine points, six rebounds and two steals.
Georgie Tech was led by Jasmine Carson and Lotta-Maj Lahtinen with 10 points apiece, while Lorela Cubaj had eight points and 10 rebounds.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Makayla Dickens hit a three-pointer to start the game and the BC lead was, 7-2. The Eagles shot 46.7 percent from the floor and held a 17-15 lead after the first quarter behind seven points from Emma Guy and five from Dickens.
- Cameron Swartz opened the second quarter with a three-pointer to spark a 7-0 run as the Eagles held a 24-15 lead. The lead grew to 13 points with 6:03 to play in the quarter. The offense stalled when Guy picked up her second foul with five minutes to play. Georgia Tech would go on a 10-3 run and BC led, 31-25, at the half.
- Georgia Tech capitalized on two Eagles turnovers and two quick fouls on Marnelle Garraud and Guy and it was a two-point game, 33-31. BC went inside to Soule and PIneau and a 6-0 run extended BC's lead, 39-31. BC's defense held Georgia Tech to zero field goals in the final 3:39 to take a 44-36 lead with one quarter to play.
- Boston College extended the lead to 10 points when Pineau hit a layup inside at 6:59. The lead grew to 50-38 when Taylor Soule scored inside with 5:55 to play. In the final three minutes, Boston College turned the ball over four times which cut the lead to just four points. BC fouled Jasmine Carson on a three-pointer attempt and she calmly hit three free throws with 46 seconds left to play. Free throws from Garraud and Pineau along with a block by Jaelyn Batts in the final 30 seconds sealed the win.
