
No. 3 Huskies Fend Off Eagles in Sunday Matinee

Northeastern used an early goal and strong goaltending for a 3-0 win at Matthews Arena.
BOSTON – The Boston College women's hockey team fell on the road at No. 3 Northeastern on Sunday afternoon at Matthews Arena, coming up short in the Hockey East contest, 3-0.

Northeastern scored one minute, 15 seconds into the game to take the early lead but the Eagles responded by outshooting the Huskies, 12-6, in the frame. In the second period, Northeastern peppered Kelly Pickreign with 17 shots but the sophomore goaltender stopped all of them to keep it a one-goal game.

A BC penalty late in the middle frame gifted Northeastern a third period power play and the Huskies capitalized 10 seconds into the frame for a 2-0 lead and pushed it out to 3-0 three minutes later. Pickreign's save on a penalty shot kept the Eagles within reach, but Aerin Frankel and the Huskies kept the visitors off the board for the remainder of the game.

Frankel finished with 25 saves for the shutout of the Eagles while Pickreign made 32 stops for BC. The Huskies were 2-for-5 on the power play and BC went 0-for-5. Northeastern had the 35-25 lead in shots on goal.

- 1st, 1:15 | 0-1, NU GOAL: Crossing over the blue line and into the offensive zone, Matti Hartman wound up for a slap shot as she hit the left circle and beat Pickreign to the upper right corner.
- 3rd, :10 | 0-2, NU GOAL: On the power play, Northeastern entered the zone and Alina Mueller fed a pass to the right dot for Katy Noll to receive and then wrist inside the right post.
- 3rd, 4:51 | 0-3, NU GOAL: Chloe Aurard got the puck in the right circle and centered a pass back for Skylar Fontaine to redirect inside the far post.
- BC now holds a 45-42-7 all-time mark against Northeastern … the Eagles are 19-20-2 on the road against the Huskies and 35-13-4 under head coach Katie Crowley.
- Kelly Pickreign's 32 stops marked the second time this season that the sophomore has made 30-plus saves in a game … her 17 stops in the middle frame marked a single-period career-best.

- Delaney Belinskas led the Eagles with seven shots on goal while Cayla Barnes added four.
