Eagles Sweep Iona to Complete Weekend at UConn Challenge

The volleyball team defeated their third straight opponent to wrap up the tournament in Storrs
STORRS, Conn. – The Boston College volleyball team capped off a perfect weekend Saturday morning, topping Iona College in three sets to finish the UConn Challenge. The win marked the Eagles' third straight after the team defeated both Central Connecticut and UConn yesterday in a doubleheader.
BC hit at a .269 clip as a team, led by senior Sophie West's error-free .778 with seven kills. Sophomore Jewel Strawberry set the offensive pace with 15 kills for the Eagles while six different players served up aces.
Strawberry and freshman Gabby McCaa were credited with a block solo each as the Eagles totaled six as a team. Senior Jane DeJarld put up a match-high 12 digs while Strawberry recorded nine. The team moves to 4-2 on the season following this weekends' wins.
HOW IT HAPPENED
Set 1 – The teams traded points to find a 3-3 tie before the Eagles earned four straight points for the lead behind kills from Strawberry and West. The Gaels came within one point multiple times through the remainder of the set before finding an 18-18 tie. The Eagles stormed with a three-point run to regain their lead, taking four of the last five points of the set for the win, 25-21.
Set 2 – The Eagles found an early 4-2 lead before Iona tied the set at 4-4 with back-to-back kills from Karla Johnson and Tess Connolly. BC earned two points to respond from a pair of errors from Iona. After trading points, the Eagles found their footing and pushed to a 12-8 lead with a four-point run. BC gained momentum and earned a 5-1 scoring run to take a 19-12 lead. The Gaels responded with three points of their own but couldn't find the route to cut the deficit. A kill from Strawberry wrapped up the set for BC with another 25-21 win.
Set 3 – BC wasted no time in the deciding set, storming out to a 14-3 lead. Iona earned two short point runs through the rest of the set but couldn't bounce back from the initial deficit, allowing the Eagles to end the match with five straight points for a dominant 25-9 win.

The Eagles fly south to participate in the Florida Atlantic Invitational where they'll face Bethune-Cookman, FAU and Southern Utah next weekend in Boca Raton, Fla.
