
Eagles Prepped for UConn Challenge

The volleyball team will take on Central Connecticut, UConn and Iona this weekend
CHESTNUT HILL, Mass. – The Boston College volleyball team continues their month-long road stretch this weekend, heading to Storrs, Conn. for the UConn Challenge. The Eagles are set for a doubleheader with Central Connecticut State (11:00 AM) and UConn (7:00 PM) on Friday, Sept. 6 before taking on Iona (11:00 AM) on Saturday, Sept. 7.
BC opened their season with a trio of heavy-hitting opponents at the Oregon Classic. The Eagles went 1-2 on the weekend, topping UC Irvine (3-0) but falling to Oregon State (0-3) and No. 11 Oregon (0-3). The team hit at a .125 clip, averaging 8.44 kills and 10.89 points per set.
Sophomore Jewel Strawberry led the offensive effort for the Eagles, tallying a team-best 32 points and 26 kills over opening weekend. Strawberry also served up four aces, good for most on the team. Madison McKnight led with 22 assists over the weekend. Defensively, freshmen Torey Baum and Gabby McCaa took the spotlight as Baum put up 35 digs and McCaa had four blocks.
The Blue Devils have also started their season at 1-2, sweeping Rider University but falling to both Georgetown and Central Arkansas. Emma Henderson led the offensive effort, tallying 30 kills and 34.5 points through the opening tournament. Ashlyn Eisenga tallied 44 digs while Madelyn Kaprelyan recorded six blocks over the weekend.

Similarly, the Huskies find themselves with a 1-2 record following opening weekend. UConn topped Air Force but fell to Navy and Gonzaga. Genna Florig hit at a team-leading .343 and added three aces. Florig also led on the defensive front with 10.0 blocks.

The Gaels began their season with a 0-3 record, falling in their first tournament of the season to Rhode Island, New Hampshire and Army. Jamie Smith earned 22.5 of Iona's points through opening weekend, adding 19 kills. Karla Johnson hit at a team-best .293 clip, only commiting four errors through 41 attempts. Maile Powell added 41 assists over the weekend while Jessica Paolucci record 26 digs.
The Eagles continue on the road following the UConn Challenge, flying south to take on Bethune-Cookman, Florida Atlantic and Southern Utah at the FAU Invitational next weekend.
