
Eagles Head to Chicago for Big 10/ACC Cup

CHESTNUT HILL, Mass. – The Boston College field hockey team is heading west to Chicago to take on No. 2 Maryland and No. 15 Northwestern for the annual Big 10/ACC Cup.
BC opens the weekend in a neutral site game against Maryland on Friday, Sept. 6 at 2 p.m. EST before facing host Northwestern on Sunday, Sept. 6 at 1:30 p.m. EST.

Last Weekend
Boston College opened the season on the road with a 2-1 win at Providence. Fusine Govaert and Margo Carlin each scored a goal for the Eagles, while Govaert assisted on Carlin's goal.
BC then welcomed Fairfield to Newton for their first home game, falling in overtime, 3-2. Both Govaert and Carlin scored again for the Eagles.
Same Matchup, New Year
Last year, the Eagles faced off against both teams, falling in one-goal losses to both Maryland and Northwestern. In College Park, BC fell 3-2 to the eventual national runner-up on a late goal with less than three minutes remaining in the game. Then, the Eagles fell to Northwestern in overtime in a neutral matchup after Sky Caron tied it with four seconds left to send the game into extra time.
Preseason Honors
Junior Fusine Govaert was honored as a preseason All-ACC team member. The junior is a key player for the Eagles, playing in the central midfield. She's coming off a 2018 season where she scored five goals to go along with one assist on 50 total shots. Govaert played in all 19 games last season, starting 15.
ACC Preseason Poll
Of the seven ACC teams, BC was picked to come in sixth by the conference coaches. UNC led the way with 48 points and six first-place votes and was followed by Duke with 43 points and one first-place vote. The eagles notched 17 points and just edged Wake Forest, who had 16.
Lucky Number 13
BC field hockey comes into 2019 ranked 13th in the country in the Penn Monto/NFHCA Coaches' Poll. This the second-consecutive season the Eagles have entered the season ranked 13th. On another note, every ACC school is ranked inside the top-20, cementing its place as the top field hockey conference in the country.
