Eagles Fall Short To No. 22 Louisville
September 29, 2019 | Women's Soccer
The Cardinals fended off a late BC push for a 2-1 win.
NEWTON, Mass. – The No. 22 Louisville Cardinals scored two first half goals and fended off a late Boston College push to hang on for a 2-1 win on Sunday afternoon at the Newton Campus Fields.
Emina Ekic scored in the 14th minute of play and then she assisted on a Delaney Snyder goal in the 33rd minute to put the visitors up by two at the break. Goalkeeper Allie Augur kept the Eagles within striking distance with a big save five minutes into the second half, extending through the air to her right to snag a close-range shot. Augur's aggressive play in the 75th minute snuffed two potential Louisville shot attempts.
The Eagles kept pressing to cut the deficit and clawed back within one with an 89th minute Gaby Carreiro penalty kick conversion. Louisville, though, corralled BC's final minute corner kick opportunity to hang on for the 2-1 win.
Augur finished with two saves while Gabrielle Kouzelos had five for the visitors.
Boston College will hit the road for the next two ACC games, traveling to NC State on Saturday, Oct. 5 and Pitt on Thursday, Oct. 10.
