The Eagles took the top spot in the final tournament standings while Naughton, Balido and Amaka Chukwujekwu each earned All-Tournament honors. Naughton earned MVP recognition after posting 29 kills and six blocks over the three matches.
HOW IT HAPPENED
VS. BRYANT
Set 1 –The Eagles found an early 8-5 lead and never let the Bulldogs complete the comeback. Bryant reached within one point, but not before the Eagles added five of the next six points to insure their lead. A kill from Balido and a Bryant attack error sealed the set in BC's favor, 25-18.
Set 2 –In similar fashion, BC found the early lead and showed no signs of slowing down, jumping to a 15-8 advantage. The Bulldogs added two points but the Eagles answered with three of their own, continuing on to add another three to make it a 21-11 score. Bryant had a last-minute comeback attempt with a four-point run, but a kill from Ianeselli earned the set for the Eagles, 25-18.
Set 3 –The Bulldogs had the upper-hand in the deciding set, taking the first lead and running with it. Bryant erased a two-point deficit with a five-point scoring run, taking the lead in their favor. An ace from Jill Strockis tied the set at 12-all before Bryant added another four points. The Eagles answered back with four of their own as the teams traded points to push the score to 22-18 in Bryant's favor. The Eagles rallied for six straight points, taking the set win, 25-23, with a kill from Balido.
VS. RHODE ISLAND
Set 1 –The teams traded leads through three-point runs early on, but BC found the upper-hand with a four-point stretch of three straight kills from Strawberry and one from Carly Kutschke. The Rams never quite caught up as three kills from Naughton and one from Balido pushed the Eagles' lead to 14-8. BC capped off the set with five straight points, including back-to-back kills from Strawberry for a score of 25-13.
Set 2 –Despite an evenly-matched start to the second set, the Rams ran away with the lead following a nine-point rally giving them an 18-11 advantage. The Eagles put up seven straight of their own to tie the set before URI tallying another three. BC added four down the stretch, but only enough to have a one-point differential at the 25 mark. Needing extra points, the Rams took the set, 30-28, to tie the match.
Set 3 –URI took the early lead, 5-1, as the teams traded points before a four-point BC run to take the lead. Rhode Island rallied with a five-point run to go up 16-14, but the Eagles answered back for a 21-19 score. The Rams tallied six of the next eight points to take the set and the match lead, 25-23.
Set 4 –An 11-point rally for the Eagles sealed the set win very early on, as the Rams couldn't push closer than seven points. A kill from Balido and a block from West gave the Eagles the set, 25-16.
Set 5 –The Eagles hopped to a quick 6-1 lead before allowing three straight points for URI. A three-point run and a kill from Izzy Clavenna earned the win for the Eagles, 15-7.
VS. UALBANY
Set 1 –The Great Danes took the largest lead of the set following a five-point run to bring them up 13-8. The Eagles came within one point multiple times but were always met with another multi-point run, as UAlbany took the opening set, 25-22.
Set 2 –The Eagles reversed the script, jumping to a 7-1 opening lead before stretching it to 13-6. UAlbany added three to answer but couldn't find the momentum needed to rally back, as the Eagles added six of the next seven points and tied the match with a kill from Strawberry and a set score of 25-16.
Set 3 –BC recorded the first four points, continuing onto their lead with a 5-1 point stretch shortly after. With the lead at 12-6, the Great Danes pushed to come within one point but never gained a lead as the Eagles tallied five of the last six points, taking the lead with a kill from Balido to take the set, 25-21.
Set 4 –Despite holding the lead through the majority of the set, a UAlbany timeout with the score at 23-19 in BC's favor seemed to be what the Great Danes needed. A 5-1 point rally for UAlbany tied the set at 24-all before going into extra points where the Great Danes forced a fifth set, 28-26.
Set 5 –The Great Danes took an early 8-5 lead before the Eagles rallied to tie the deciding set at 8-all. Three straight points for UAlbany gave the necessary momentum to overcome another three-straight points for BC, as UAlbany won the set, 15-13, and took the match.
