The volleyball team topped Harvard in a five-set, extra-point match Wednesday evening
CAMBRIDGE, Mass. –The Boston College volleyball team earned the win in a five-set thriller against city rival Harvard Wednesday night in Cambridge. The Eagles were led by sophomore Jewel Strawberry, who tallied her fourth double-double of the season with 16 kills and 16 digs on the evening.
Â
Juniors Clare Naughton (14 kills) and Amaka Chukwujekwu (nine kills) along with senior Cat Balido (10 kills) helped pace the offensive effort while senior Jane DeJarld set up 25 assists.
Â
Defensively, senior Carly Kutschke led the blocking effort with five total blocks, a career high. Strawberry and Naughton followed closely, each totaling three blocks. DeJarld and classmate Jill Strockis each recorded seven digs to follow behind Strawberry's 16.Â
Â
The win snaps a four-game losing streak against the Crimson and moves the all-time series record to 19-11 in favor of BC. The Eagles head into their final non-conference tournament of the season with a 7-2 overall record.

HOW IT HAPPENED
Set 1 –The Eagles found themselves down early on, falling to a 10-3 deficit in the first set. A four-set run for BC would cut the Crimson's lead to just three points before Harvard continued to rally to a 21-10 score. BC earned four of the last five points in the set in a comeback attempt, but Harvard earned the 25-15 win with a kill from Mindie Mabry.
Set 2 –The teams traded points to an 8-8 knot before the Eagles tallied four straight points for the lead. BC added onto their advantage, finding a 17-12 score before rallying for the remainder of the set to even the match with a dominant 25-12 set win capped off with an ace from Strockis.
Set 3 –BC allowed just one Crimson point before adding five of their own to open the third set. The Eagles continued on their momentum, storming to a 15-5 lead that Harvard couldn't erase. BC earned five of the last seven points of the set to win, 25-17, with the set point coming from a kill from Strawberry.
Set 4 –Neither team found more than a two-point lead in the fourth set, as the score would end up tied 11 different times. The Crimson forced a fifth set with a 25-23 fourth set win.
Set 5 –The deciding set would prove to be as equally-matched as the fourth, but not before the Eagles took a 6-3 lead early on. Harvard rallied to tie the set at 8-all before BC added four straight kills to take a five-point lead. The Crimson once again evened the score and kept within two, forcing extra points. A pair of kills from Chukwujekwu and Strawberry took the necessary two-point lead and earned the Eagles the hard-fought win.
