CHESTNUT HILL, Mass. – The Boston College volleyball team is set for a cross-town road trip to take on Harvard in a midweek clash tomorrow with first serve to come at 7:00 PM.
The Eagles are coming off of a solid weekend in Boca Raton, wrapping up the Owls Classic with a 2-1 record after topping Bethune-Cookman and Southern Utah in straight sets. The weekend proved to be a full-team effort as Clare Naughton (9 kills vs. Bethune-Cookman), Jewel Strawberry (20 kills vs. FAU) and Cat Balido (12 kills vs. Southern Utah) each found themselves at the top of the leaderboard over the tournament. Defensively, Amaka Chukwujekwu added 15 blocks over the weekend while Torey Baum totaled 28 digs. Setters Jane DeJarld and Madison McKnight combined for 119 assists, highlighted by 30 from McKnight against FAU.
The Crimson hang onto a 2-4 record heading into Wednesday's matchup after a tough weekend in California, falling to La Salle, San Diego and UC Santa Barbara at the Thunderdome Classic. Before heading west, Harvard topped Sacred Heart and Rhode Island, split between a loss to Colgate. Junior Evelyn Gray leads the team with 66.0 points on the season so far, averaging 3.0 per set with 57 kills. Freshman setter Ashley Wang has 117 setups through just six games to lead the team. Sandra Zang (69 digs) and Sope Adeleye (30 blocks) lead on the defensive front.
The Eagles hold the all-time series record, 18-11, despite the current three-game losing streak in the series. The cross-town rivals first met in 1990, as the Eagles won eight of the first nine matchups with the Crimson.
Following the midweek match, BC heads to Rhode Island for their final tournament of the nonconference season where they will take on URI, Bryant and UAlbany.
