Eagles Add 11 Newcomers for 2019 Season

11 players to join men's soccer program.
CHESTNUT HILL, Mass. – The Boston College men's soccer team has added 11 newcomers to the 2019 roster, which head coach Ed Kelly released on Wednesday afternoon. The Eagles' full 2019 roster is now available at bceagles.com. | 2019 Roster
The 11 newcomers includes two transfer students – Wil Jaques and Alavaro Magel. Jacques, a native of Medford, arrives at the Heights from Duke. Magel, a native of Germany, played two seasons at Nyack College. He originally set out to play at Barry University.
The freshman include goalkeeper Giacomo Piccardo, midfielder Amos Shapiro-Thompson, midfielder Mike Suski, forward Gualtiero Barilla, back Victor Souza, midfielder/back Walker Davey, defender Alejandro Zimmermann, forward Stefan Sigurdarson and defender Zach Peter.
Boston College will open the 2019 season on Friday, Aug. 30, when the Eagles host Quinnipiac at the Newton Campus Soccer Field. Kickoff is set for 4 p.m.

#1 – GIACOMO PICCARDO

- Piccardo attended Istituto Modigliani in Naples Italy. Not only is he a soccer player, Piccardo has boxed, played tennis, basketball and swam. He is a goalkeeper by trade but was also a forward. Piccardo is originally from Genova, Italy.
#10 - AMOS SHAPIRO-THOMPSON

- Shapiro-Thompson was member of the 2016 Milton Academy team which won the ISL and NEPSAC Tournament and went 23-0. He played for the U-14 and U-15 US National teams and for the New England Revolution from eighth grade to 10th. In 2017, he moved to Croatia to play for Dinamo Zagreb and in 2018 he played for Legia Warsaw in Poland.
#11 - MICHAEL SUSKI

Windsor, Conn. | Loomis Chaffee
- A graduate of Loomis Chaffee, Suski is the two-time Gatorade Player of the Year in Connecticut. He finished his high school career with 80 goals, including a school record 44 as a junior. Suski played for FSC FC United and was named a USA Today All-American first team honoree last year.

- Jacques is a transfer from Duke University. He played in one game over two seasons. Prior to Duke, Jacques played for the Boston Bolts Academy, he previously played for the NEFC Elite U-14 and U-15 teams. Earned Academy East Best XI for the 2015-16 season. Played two seasons at Medford High and was an Eastern Mass. All-Star and Greater Boston League All-Star.

- Barilla has three brothers – two are student-athletes at BC. Gregorio plays soccer, while Adriano competes on the tennis team. Their father Guido was a member of the track and field team at BC. Played at Worcester Academy in 2018-19 and was a member of the NEFC soccer club. Played for Parma FC, Italy.

- Davey is a two-time captain at the Groton School and was the team MVP as a senior. He played midfield at Groton but is expected to become a defender at BC. A member of NEFC NPL, Davey helped the team win the 2017 National Cup Final.

- Zimmermann graduated from Sun Valley High School and was the central back. He attended University of Costa Rica, San Pedro. He also played defense for Guadalupe FC. Zimmermann is the captain of the U-20 Guadalupe FC team.

- Sigurdarson played soccer in Reykjavik, Iceland at Commercial College of Iceland. He played 14 games for the Under-17 team from 2016-18. Sigurdardarson's dad, Sigurour Valtysson, graduated in 1991 from Columbia. He played soccer from 1987-90.

- A team captain, Peter was an outside back for Loomis Chaffee from 2015-18. He was member of the team which won the Founder's League Championship in 2017 and 2018. In 2018, the team advanced to the semifinals. In 2017, the team won the NEPSAC Class A Championship. Peter compiled seven goals and 32 assists while at Loomis Chaffee.

- A graduate transfer, Magel has played Nyack College and Barry University. A goalkeeper, Magel, a native of German, played at Luebeck from 2014-16 and Hamburger SV from 2009-13. His father Peter Magel was a professional handball player in the German Bundesliga.
