Dillon Earns Spot on Maxwell Award Watch List

BC running back was one of 20 semifinalist for the 2018 Player of the Year honor.
PHILADELPHIA – Boston College junior running back AJ Dillon was named to the watch list for the Maxwell Award by the Maxwell Football Club on Monday. The 83rd Maxwell Award will honor the Collegiate Player of the Year.

Dillon is one of seven players on the watch list representing the ACC and one of 10 players on the list that was a 2018 semifinalist for the 82nd Maxwell Award.

As a sophomore, Dillon was elected to the All-ACC First Team as he rushed for 1,108 yards and 10 touchdowns in just 10 games; becoming the first player in BC history to rush for over 1,000 yards in each of his first two seasons. He led the ACC with 110.8 rushing yards per game, which ranked 13th in the country.

Dillon was the 2017 ACC Rookie of the Year and ACC Offensive Rookie of the Year; the first BC player to win either award. He finished his freshman campaign with 1,589 rushing yards, which ranked seventh nationally and second among all freshmen.

In 23 career games, Dillon is ninth all-time in rushing yards at BC with 2,697. He has scored 25 touchdowns, including 24 on the ground, and eclipsed the 100-yard mark in 12 games.

Dillon and senior defensive tackle Tanner Karafa will represent the Eagles, along with head coach Steve Addazio, at Wednesday's ACC Kickoff in Charlotte. Coverage on ACC Network will run 10 a.m. – 4:45 p.m. ESPNU will air its ACC Football Kickoff coverage from 4-6 p.m. SiriusXM ACC Radio channel 371 will be live from Charlotte from 9 a.m. – to 4 p.m. BC fans can tune in between 1:45-2:15 p.m. to hear from the BC contingent.
