GREENSBORO, N.C. – Underclassmen Natasha Irani and Laura Lopez were both named to the 2019 ACC Women's Tennis All-Academic Team on Friday by the conference.Â
During her sophomore season, Irani went 23-12 overall and 9-5 in ACC play in singles matches. She posted four straight victories and won six of her final seven to close the season. Irani won both her matches at the ACC Championship in straight sets over Louisville and Wake Forest, and also won in straight sets during conference play against Virginia, Georgia Tech, Miami and Pitt.
Lopez went 20-13 overall and 7-8 in ACC play in singles as a rookie. She won both her singles matches at the ACC Championship, including a comeback three-set victory against Peyton Pesavento of No. 22 Wake Forest. The Spaniard clinched the Eagles' first-ever upset of a top-10 team by beating Dina Hegab of No. 10 Syracuse in No. 5 singles. She also won the clinching match against No. 27 Miami in straight sets at No. 6 singles.
Irani and Lopez helped Boston College to its highest win total in the last two decades (16) and its first NCAA Tournament berth since 1997.Â
To be eligible for consideration for the All-ACC Academic team, a student-athlete must have earned a 3.0 grade point average for the previous semester and maintained a 3.0 cumulative average during her academic career.
