Austin Selected to ACC Tennis All-Academic Team

GREENSBORO, N.C. – Boston College junior Derek Austin has been selected to the 2019 ACC Men's Tennis All-Academic Team, as announced on Friday by the conference.Â
Austin played No. 1 singles and doubles for the Eagles this past season. He was named to the All-ACC Third Team, becoming the first Eagle to earn All-ACC honors since 2012. Last year, Austin was tabbed as an ITA Scholar-Athlete following his sophomore season.
The Mill Valley, California native went 12-13 overall and 3-9 in conference play, finishing his season by upsetting No. 92 Simon Beaudry against Clemson in the ACC Championship. He also had ACC wins against Louisville and Notre Dame during the regular season and won seven singles matches in a row from November to February.
Austin closed the season with a 12-11 doubles record, playing with both Sean Mullins and Conor Mullins in the No. 1 slot. He upset the No. 33 ranked pair of Andy Zhou and Logan Weber at No. 44 Harvard with Conor Mullins.
To be eligible for consideration for the All-ACC Academic team, a student-athlete must have earned a 3.0 grade point average for the previous semester and maintained a 3.0 cumulative average during his academic career.
