Both Apuzzo and Arsenault were named IWLCA First Team All-Americans yesterday.
GRAND LAKE, Colo. – Boston College lacrosse's Sam Apuzzo was named the Attacker of the Year while Dempsey Arsenault was named the Midfielder of the Year, as announced on Thursday by the Intercollegiate Women's Lacrosse Coaches Association (IWLCA).
Â
One of Boston College's most decorated and dominant athletes of all-time, Apuzzo became the program's first Tewaaraton winner as a junior and showed no signs of slowing down throughout her standout senior campaign. The attacker put up another program-high 94 goals, topping her previous record of 88. She sat atop the nation consistently in points, goals and draws through her finale. Apuzzo had another standout season in her collegiate finale, putting up 94 goals – topping her previous program record of 88 – and 30 assists for 124 points on the year. She also led the Eagles to become the first-ever team to surpass 400 draw wins, winning a program record 191 herself over the season. She ended the season as the second-most productive point scorer in the nation, only behind Kenzie Kent. Apuzzo earned All-ACC First Team, ACC All-Tournament Team and NCAA All-Tournament Team honors while being named ACC and ECAC Attacker of the Year. She was named to the Tewaaraton Finalist list for the second consecutive year
Â
Arsenault was the second-best goal producer on the team, playing a crucial balance between offense and defense for the Eagles over their 22-2 overall season. Arsenault totaled 92 points on the season while picking up a team-high 45 ground balls and winning a solid 100 draw controls. She also became BC's first-ever ACC Midfielder of the Year and joined Apuzzo on the list of five Tewaaraton finalists, marking the first time in program history that the Eagles had two athletes on the list of finalists. The Eagles' most consistent dual-threat, Arsenault headed the midfield and was a dominant presence on either end of the field.
