Eagles Place Fourth In Day 1 Semifinal Action

Top 18 teams advance to finals on Thursday.
NEWPORT, R.I. (May 28, 2019) – The Boston College Coed team placed fourth in the Western fleet today in the first day of action of the Gill College Sailing Coed National Championship Semifinals hosted by Brown University at the Newport Sailing Center in Fort Adams State Park. There are 36 teams vying for 18 spots in the championship finals, which will begin on Thursday, May 30.
 The semifinals are divided into two fleets, an Eastern and Western, each with 18 teams. The top nine teams from each fleet will advance to the finals on Thursday. The sailors are racing on windward leeward courses in FJs and Z420s. Today the Eastern fleet sailed FJs and the Western fleet sailed Z420s. The fleets will switch boats tomorrow.
Sailing for BC's A Division team were senior Wade Waddell, senior Caroline Downey and freshman Laura Ferraris. The crew finished fourth with 43 points, while Yale was first with 27 points. Hobart and Smith was second with 27 points, while College of Charleston posted 32 points in third.
The B Division team placed third with 37 points, while Hobart and Smith was first with 29 points. Georgetown had 37 points in second place. Sailing for BC was sophomore Sophia Reineke and freshman Declan McGranahan in races one through six, while seniors Peter Lynn and Tara Ferraris competed in the seventh race.  Â

The first warning for racing is at 10 a.m. tomorrow. No race can start after 5 p.m. By the end of the day the top 18 teams will be determined and racing will move onto the finals.
