Eagles Run at the ACC Championship Ends in the Semifinals

Boston College fell to UNC in its first ACC semifinal appearance.
DURHAM, N.C. – The Boston College baseball team was eliminated from the ACC Championship with a 13-5 decision to No. 17 North Carolina in the program's first trip to the semifinals at Durham Bulls Athletic Park on Saturday. The Eagles fell to 31-27 on the season, while the Tar Heels improved to 41-17 and move on to Sunday's championship game.

The first two Carolina batters of the game walked and scored in the bottom of the first and the Tar Heels went on to lead the whole way. UNC built a 7-1 lead after the fifth and thwarted a BC comeback by answering the Eagles' four-run top of the sixth with three in the home half.

Junior right fielder Joe Suozzi (Glen Cove, N.Y.) led Boston College with a 3-for-4 day at the plate. Junior first baseman Jack Cunningham (South Riding, Va.) reached base three times, including a solo home run. Senior catcher Gian Martellini (Johnston, R.I.) added a 2-for-4 game.

Senior right-hander John Witkowski (Melrose, Mass.) made his third start of the season. Witkowski (1-1) allowed four runs in two-plus innings; leaving the game with two on and nobody out in the third.
