
ACC Announces Two Football Kickoff Times

ACC Network to televise season-opener against Virginia Tech
GREENSBORO, N.C. – The Atlantic Coast Conference announced today the kickoff times for two Boston College football games this fall at Alumni Stadium.

Boston College opens the 2019 season on Saturday, August 31 against Virginia Tech with a 4 p.m. kickoff in Chestnut Hill on ACC Network. It marks the fourth time since BC joined the ACC in 2005 that the Eagles will begin the season against an ACC foe. Last season, BC defeated the Hokies 31-21 in Blacksburg. Overall, Virginia Tech leads the all-time series 18-9.

In the third week of the season, the Eagles host Big 12 foe Kansas for a Friday night matchup on ACC Network. Kickoff for the September 13 matchup is set for 7:30 p.m. Boston College and Kansas meet for the first time in series history. First-year head coach Les Miles leads the Jayhawks to the Heights for the non-conference matchup. All-time, the Eagles are 22-28-1 against current Big 12 members. The majority of those games, 33, were against West Virginia when the two schools met both in non-conference matchups and as members of the Big East.

Two of the first three games of the season for Boston College will be on ACC Network. Owned and operated by ESPN in partnership with the Atlantic Coast Conference, ACC Network is a new 24/7 national network dedicated to ACC sports set to launch August 22, 2019. Approximately 450 live contests including 40 regular-season football games, 150 men's and women's basketball games, and 200 other regular-season competitions and tournament games from across the conference's 27 sponsored sports will be televised annually, plus a complement of news and information shows and original programming. Together, ACC Network's TV and digital platforms will feature 1,300 ACC events in its first year. ESPN has been televising ACC content since 1979 and has exclusive rights to every conference-controlled game across sports and championships.
Carriage agreements are already in place with the following video providers among others: Altice, DIRECTV, Google Fiber, Hulu Live TV, Optimum, PlayStation Vue, Suddenlink,TVision and Verizon Fios. ACC Network also announced that former Boston College standout Mark Herzlich has joined the network for various on-air roles. Herzlich, a Super Bowl Champion and All-America at BC, joins ACCN following a seven-year NFL career with the New York Giants. During his time with the Giants, Herzlich was named as a finalist for the Walter Payton NFL Man of the Year Award, and won the United Way Gridiron Community Champion Award and the Ed Block Courage Award.

While at Boston College, Herzlich earned All-America honors along with being named the 2008 ACC Defensive Player of the Year. The following year, Herzlich was diagnosed with Ewing's sarcoma, a rare form of bone cancer. In September 2009, after undergoing aggressive chemotherapy, radiation and surgery, Herzlich announced that he was cancer free live on ESPN's College Gameday. He rejoined his teammates for the 2010 season, starting all 13 games and collecting the Rudy Award and the ACC's Brian Piccolo Award. Â

The only other game time and television network designation already announced is the November 23 contest at Notre Dame. Kickoff from South Bend is set for 2:30 p.m. on NBC. The Fighting Irish lead the all-time series 15-9 as the two teams square off for the first time in South Bend since 2011. BC will look for its first win against Notre Dame since a 17-0 victory in 2008 at Alumni Stadium.
