CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. — Amanda Sinkewicz set a new Boston College record in the javelin during the Eagles' first day of competition at the 2019 ACC Outdoor Track & Field Championship, held at Lannigan Field on the campus of the University of Virginia.
Sinkewicz's throw of 46.44m (152'4") on Thursday night placed her seventh overall in competition. The mark also ranked among the top 48 in the east region, putting the junior into the field of the preliminary round of the NCAA Championship.
Jessica Creedon performed well in day one of the heptathlon, posting personal bests in each of the four events - the 100m hurdles (14.68), high jump (1.66m/5'5.25"), shot put (10.79m/35'4.75"), and 200m (26.26). She sits in fifth place with a total of 3046 points. The final three events - the long jump, javelin, and 800m - will be contested on Friday.
Paige Duca advanced to Saturday's final in the 1,500m run. Duca clocked 4:25.25, finishing fifth in her heat, but advancing on time. The top three finishers in each heat, plus the next three best times, will race in Saturday's final. Jessica Martin registered a personal-best time of 4:35.85, finishing 26th in the opening rounds, while Katherine DeLoreto ran 4:44.55 to place 28th in the trials.
In other action on Thursday's opening day of competition, Emma Taylor (1:01.61, 12th) and Sarah Heckel (1:06.17, 18th) raced in the 400m hurdles, while Vanessa Reimer (26.43, 27th) ran the 200m. Mary Kate Vaughn was 17th in the 10,000m run in a time of 37:28.38. In the long jump, Julia Lyons tied her personal best with a leap of 5.86m (19'2.75"), placing her 15th overall.
