Head Coach Jason Kennedy announces five additions for the upcoming season
CHESTNUT HILL, Mass. - The Boston College volleyball team is excited to welcome five new additions to their roster for the 2019 season. Following a program record-shattering year in Head Coach Jason Kennedy's first season, the Eagles added freshman Torey Baum in January and welcome Gabrielle McCaa, Isabella Clavenna, Payton Hielscher and Silvia Ianeselli in the fall.
"This recruiting class really adds some size to our roster. With a middle at 6'4", a 6'1" setter, and a pair of 6'2" pin hitters we're hoping to add to the physicality of what we can bring this fall," shared Kennedy. "We're excited to get these kids in the gym to join Torey to round out the 2019 class and start to work with them on finding their appropriate roles for them this fall. The future is bright and we're excited to start adding these pieces to the mix."
Torey Baum - 5'8" - Libero - Orlando, Fla.
- Played for West Orange School and Orlando Tampa Volleyball Academy
- Enrolled in classes and the Eagles for spring practices in January
- Coach's quote: "As a coaching staff we believe Torey is one of the best players in the country at her position. She is a leader and an elite competitor. Her position usually doesn't draw many accolades or much recognition but people who truly understand the game will recognize the value of having someone like that out on the floor."
Gabrielle McCaa - 6'4" - MB/RS - Minneapolis, Minn.
- Plays for Northern Lights Volleyball Club
- No. 69 senior ace according to PrepVolleyball
- Coach's quote: "Gabrielle is a long 6'4" that is an intimidating force at the net. Her length and athleticism will help us right away with our blocking and give us much more of an offensive and defensive presence at the net."
Isabella Clavenna - ' 6'2" - OH/RS - Dallas, Texas
- Plays for Summit Volleyball Club
- Coach's quote: "Isabella is another pin hitter that comes in and should have a chance to contribute right away. Her volleyball IQ has grown tremendously over the past couple of years and she carries a large offensive load on her club team. Once Izzy can figure out the timing of our offense she should be able to score effectively in our conference."
Payton Hielscher - 6'1" - Setter - Chicago, Ill.
- Plays for Adversity Volleyball Club
-Top-350 recruit by PrepVolleyball
- Coach's quote: "Payton is a taller setter with a good release on the ball. This is a tough offense to come in and try to adjust to right away but her work ethic should help her grasp the concept pretty quickly. She is very driven and will push herself to help the team this fall."
Silvia Ianeselli - 6'2" - OH - Trento, Italy
- Plays for Walliance Ata Trento
- Coach's quote: "Silvia is a 6 rotation left side hitter with a huge upside. She has a lot of high level experience playing against competition in Italy that is much more mature and generally more physical than a lot of the club teams here in the US. She understands what it's like to compete at a high level and we look forward to helping her develop her tools here in Boston for the next four years before she pursues her volleyball career further back in Italy."
The Eagles capped off their season with the most wins in program history, finishing with a .500 win percentage, 15-15 record and five Atlantic Coast Conference wins.
