April 29, 2019 | Men's Hockey
NEEDHAM, Mass. – Classmates Joseph Woll and David Cotton were each honored with the Norman F. Dailey Award as Boston College's Most Valuable Players for the 2018-19 season this past weekend at the 70th annual Pike's Peak Club postseason awards banquet.
Cotton was a Hockey East First Team All-Star and a Second Team All-American this season, leading Hockey East with 23 goals. The Parker, Texas native was voted as the team's 2019-20 captain following the season. Woll posted a 2.17 goals against average and a .926 save percentage during Hockey East play and finished his BC career with 47 victories and six shutouts. The St. Louis native recently signed with the Toronto Maple Leafs, who drafted him in the third round of the 2016 NHL Draft.
Senior captains Christopher Brown, Casey Fitzgerald and Michael Kim were recognized with the John "Snooks" Kelley Memorial Award, given to the individuals who best typify Boston College hockey. Kelley served as team manager for three years before becoming a "playing manager" in his senior year in 1928. He assumed coaching duties at his alma mater in 1932 and led the program until his retirement in 1972. Kelley became the first coach in college hockey history to surpass the 500-victory mark.
Senior goalie Ian Milosz was given the William J. Flynn Coaches Award, decided upon by head coach Jerry York and his staff. Flynn '39 was a former BC student-athlete, faculty member and coach, and served as Director of Athletics from 1957-90. Milosz came to the program midway through his freshman campaign and was a valued member of the Eagles' locker room during his career.
The Most Improved Player Award, which is named for 1956 Beanpot MVP James E. Tiernan, was handed out to senior forward JD Dudek. The New Hampshire native played in every game during his senior campaign and scored seven goals and 12 points. He closed his career with 149 games played, 28 goals and 28 assists.
Freshman forward Marc McLaughlin won the Bernie Burke Outstanding Freshman Award, named in honor of the former BC goalie and longtime freshman coach. McLaughlin skated in all 39 games as a rookie and played a strong two-way game, finishing with four goals and four assists for eight points.
Pike's Peak President Lee Blossom opened and closed the program and former Eagle Andy Powers '99, the radio color commentator for BC Hockey on WEEI, served as Master of Ceremony.
