Long and Wilcox Earn All-ACC Tennis Honors
April 25, 2019 | Women's Tennis
GREENSBORO, N.C. – Sophomore Yufei Long and junior Kylie Wilcox were both named to the All-ACC Third Team on Thursday afternoon as the league announced its postseason honors. BC has now had at least two All-ACC honorees in four of the last five seasons.
The duo spent the majority of the season as the Eagles' top two singles players and both are currently ranked nationally by the ITA (Long - 71, Wilcox - 117). As a team, Boston College sits 42nd in the nation following a 16-10 regular season for its highest win total in the last 20 years.
Long and Wilcox each upset top-10 ranked opponents in singles to break the school record on Feb. 22 against second-ranked North Carolina, beating the No. 2 and No. 6 players in the country.Â
Long won her first seven matches of the spring and is 13-12 overall in singles while playing in either the No. 1 or No. 2 slot. She also upset 43rd-ranked Gabriela Knutson of No. 10 Syracuse on Feb. 3, helping the Eagles beat a top-10 program for the first time in school history.
Wilcox has compiled a 14-13 singles record and a 20-8 doubles mark this season. She and senior Jackie Urbinati have climbed all the way to No. 56 in the ITA doubles rankings following eight consecutive victories. Half of those wins have come against doubles teams ranked in the ITA top-50.
The Eagles are chasing their first NCAA Tournament berth since 1997 and will find out their fate during the NCAA Selection Show, which airs on NCAA.com next Monday (April 29) at 6:30 p.m.
