Paige Duca wins the 3,000m steeplechase; Amanda Sinkewicz takes first in the javelin

CHESTNUT HILL, Mass. — The Boston College women's track & field team competed at the Ocean State Invitational. Friday's events were held at Ray Treacy Track at Providence College, while Saturday's competition shifted crosstown to Brown Stadium at Brown University.

On Friday at Providence College, Paige Duca led gun-to-tape in the 3,000m steeplechase, winning the event in a time of 10:25.34.

Gianna Bender took sixth place in the 800m, in a time of 2:11.13. Racing in the first heat, she moved up five spots over the final 400m, closing in 68 seconds. In the mile, Emeline Delanis finished second in her heat and ninth overall in the mile, clocking a time of 4:59.05. The Eagles went 6-7-9 in the 5,000m, led by Alison Burns' 17:54.22. She was followed by Tia Patterson (18:13.73), and Sarah Marvin (18:35.34).

Saturday at Brown saw Amanda Sinkewicz take first place in the javelin throw, with a toss of 40.25m. Her winning throw came on her fifth attempt of the afternoon. Jessica Creedon took fourth in the javelin, with a mark of 32.06m.

In the 100m, Julia Lyons was fifth in a time of 12.59. Lyons clocked 12.48 in the qualifying round. Monica Heil was eighth in a time of 12.75 - running 12.69 in the preliminary heat. Sierra Tonneson placed fourth in the 400m, in 1:01.25.

Abigail Gothers (1.65m) was fourth in the high jump, followed by teammate Creedon (1.60m) in fifth. Creedon was also eighth in the long jump.
