Four Eagles Win Gold at 2019 IIHF World Championships

Cayla Barnes, Megan Keller, Alex Carpenter and Emily Pfalzer helped the U.S. capture a fifth-straight World Championship.
ESPOO, Finland – When the United States defeated Finland, 2-1, in a shootout on Sunday at the 2019 IIHF Women's World Championships, four Boston College women's hockey players were among the U.S. gold medalists. Current Eagles Cayla Barnes and Megan Keller joined Alex Carpenter '16 and Emily Pfalzer '15 in capturing a fifth consecutive gold medal for the United States at the World Championships.
Carpenter has been a member of all five of those gold-medal winning squads while this marked the fourth medal for both Keller and Pfalzer. Barnes – who was making her World Championships debut – captured her first gold.
Barnes, Pfalzer and Keller tied for the lead among all U.S. blue liners in points for the tournament, with the current Eagles each contributing six points on two goals and four assists and Pfalzer racking up five helpers and one goal. Carpenter finished the tournament with seven points on two goals and five assists. Pfalzer led the tournament with a plus-minus rating of plus-16. Barnes was named one of the three outstanding players for the tournament for the U.S.
Barnes, Keller and Pfalzer were members of the U.S. squad that claimed gold at the 2018 Winter Olympic Games while Carpenter earned a silver medal with the U.S. at the 2014 games. Carpenter won gold in 2013, 2015, 2016 and 2017 while Keller and Pfalzer were on the gold-medal winning WWC squads in 2015, 2016 and 2017.
