The Boston College baseball team wraps up a 10-game homestand with an ACC series against No. 17 Georgia Tech. Play begins Friday, April 12 under the lights from the Harrington Athletics Village at 6 p.m. The Eagles host their annual "Military Appreciation Day" Saturday at 2 p.m. and "Back the Blue" first responder game Sunday at 1 p.m.
ABOUT THE EAGLES
Boston College enters the weekend on its third three-game win streak of the season. The Eagles are 17-17 overall and 6-9 in the ACC. Senior third baseman Jake Alu has scored a team-high 29 runs, while batting in eight of nine spots this season with a .346 batting average. He has hit a team-high 11 doubles to go with three home runs and 23 RBI. Junior shortstop Brian Dempsey is hitting .313 with a team-leading 27 RBI. Junior first baseman Jack Cunningham has slugged a team-best five home runs and is hitting .310 with a .909 OPS. Senior left-handed pitcher Dan Metzdorf occupies the Friday night role in the BC rotation. He is 3-2 with a 3.68 earned run average. Freshman righty Mason Pelio is 4-1 with a 1.64 ERA in the Sunday starter spot. Georgia Tech, which peaks in the polls at No. 17 by D1Baseball.com, is 22-11 on the season after a 12-2 loss at No. 2 Georgia on Tuesday night. The Yellow Jackets are 9-6 in the ACC following a series rubber-match win over No. 9 North Carolina on Sunday. Designated hitter Michael Guldberg is hitting an ACC-leading .426 with 29 runs scored. Catcher Kyle McCann is tied for the ACC lead in home runs at 14, while hitting .342 with a league-best .767 slugging percentage. First baseman Tristin English is second in the ACC in slugging at .658 to go with a .317 batting average, 10 doubles and nine home runs.ALL-TIME VS. GEORGIA TECH
The Yellow Jackets lead the all-time series with the Eagles, 18-12. The series began when Boston College joined the ACC for the 2006 baseball season. Georgia Tech holds a 16-12 advantage in regular season play and has won each of the two ACC tournament contests in 2009 and 2016. The Eagles are 5-7 against ranked opponents this season having defeated No. 8 Louisville (3/10), No. 20 Clemson (3/24), No. 19 Florida State (3/29, 3/31) and No. 1 NC State (4/7). The win over the Cardinals marked BC's first win over a ranked team and first over a ranked team on the road since defeating No. 21 Virginia (3/16/18). The series win at FSU marked the first for the Eagles against a ranked opponent at home or on the road since taking two of three at No. 22 Georgia Tech (2016).
