
Virginia Tops Eagles, 77-61

GREENSBORO, N.C. – The Boston College women's basketball team fell to Virginia, 77-61, in the first round of the ACC Tournament at the Greensboro Coliseum on Wednesday afternoon.
The Eagles finished the season with a 14-16 record, while the Cavaliers improved to 12-18. Virginia will play No. 5 Syracuse on Thursday at 11 a.m.
BC was led by junior forward Emma Guy, who shot 9-for-13 from the floor and finished with a team-high 18 points. She also had seven boards and a block in the game. Sophomore Milan Bolden-Morris added 12 points, while freshman Marnelle Garraud netted 11 points along with three assists.
Virginia was led by Jocelyn Willoughby with 29 points and 13 rebounds. She made 12-of-12 from the free-throw line to go along with two assists and two steals.
Boston College battled back from an 11-2 opening run by Virginia. Guy kept BC in the game scoring eight of the Eagles 10 points in the first quarter. The Eagles took their first lead on a three-pointer by Bolden-Morris at 3:30 in the second quarter. It was her second in the quarter as she had eight points at the half. BC took a 29-23 lead into the locker room behind 14 first half points from Guy.
UVA slowly chipped away at the lead as the Eagles held a 12 point lead with 7:33 to play in the third quarter. BC opened up on a 6-2 run and the Cavaliers called a timeout and turned the tables on BC with an 8-0 run behind five points from Willoughby.
A three-pointer from Taylor Ortlepp stopped the UVA run but the Cavaliers took the lead with 2:35 to play on a three-pointer from Khyasia Caldwell. UVA closed the quarter out with on a 16-4 run, six from Willoughby. A jumper by Milan Bolden-Morris opened the final quarter to cut the UVA lead to three points, 49-46.
BC cut the lead to three points with 4:20 to play when Taylor Soule hit a layup. Willoughby would hit eight foul shots as Virginia scored 14 of the final 16 points to seal the win.
