Eagles Cruise Past Houston in Singles

CHESTNUT HILL, Mass. – Competing without its No. 1 player Yufei Long, Boston College dominated singles play to snap Houston's six-match winning streak by a 5-2 final on Friday afternoon at the Flynn Recreation Complex.
The Eagles collected their 12th win of the season, improving to 12-7 (2-7 ACC), while the Cougars (11-5) suffered just their fifth loss of the season.
"We played hard in doubles but need to make better shot choices at times, I thought Houston competed very hard played well," said head coach Nigel Bentley. "The team rallied in singles though, we had to really focus and fight. We won all the third sets in singles which was huge. Jackie Urbinati is playing with such confidence and it's exciting to watch her play at such a high level. We are looking to playing our best tennis at Louisville on Sunday."
BC dropped the doubles point to Houston but stormed back in singles with every player moving up a slot in Long's absence. Jackie Urbinati (6-1, 6-2) and Laura Lopez (6-1, 6-1) posted dominant performances in the No. 2 and 5 slots as the pair lost a total of five games.
Kylie Wilcox faced Ndini Ndunda in No. 1 singles and fell in the first set 7-5, but came back to lose just three games in the final two sets to help give BC a 3-1 lead. Elene Tsokilauri sealed the win for the Eagles in similar fashion, winning her final two sets 7-5, 6-2 to edge out Jovana Vukovic in the No. 4 slot.
Natasha Irani needed a third set to defeat Sophie Gerits in No. 3 singles as she added a fifth point for the team.
Boston College will now take an ACC trip to Louisville on Sunday (March 31) as it faces the Cardinals at 12 p.m.
