CHESTNUT HILL, Mass. – Second-ranked Wake Forest earned a 6-1 ACC victory at the Flynn Recreation Complex on Sunday afternoon. Boston College dropped to 5-10 (0-7 ACC), while the Demon Deacons improved to 21-3 (7-0 ACC).
In No. 1 singles, Derek Austin played a tight first set against the third-ranked player in the nation and defending NCAA champion Petros Chrysochos but fell in a tiebreaker and lost the second set 6-2. The Eagles earned their lone point in No. 2 singles as Markus Nordby won a superbreaker against Rrezart Cungu following two sets separated by just two breaks.
"Great effort today by Markus who battled hard and played an excellent match," said head coach Scott Wilkins. "Derek played a great first set against the defending national singles champion who is currently top-5 in the country. Derek continues to play at a high level and we look forward to him helping us win in the next few weeks."
Austin and Conor Mullins battled the 26th-ranked pair of Chrysochos and Botzer in doubles before dropping a 6-4 final. Mullins faced Alan Gadjiev in singles, losing the first set by a break before losing steam in the second.
