WAKEFIELD, Mass. – After scoring dramatic game-winning goals in Games 2 and 3 of the Hockey East Quarterfinals, Logan Hutsko was named the Hockey East Co-Player of the Week on Monday with Cale Makar of UMass, BC's opponent in Friday's league semifinal.
Down 1-0 in a best-of-three series to No. 7 Providence on Saturday, Hutsko saved Boston College's season with a goal just 23 seconds into overtime. The forward won a 1-on-1 battle with Friars defenseman Jacob Bryson and tucked a shot under the crossbar against the grain to beat Hayden Hawkey. The Tampa native also had two assists in Game 2 for a season-high three points.
On Sunday, Hutsko netted the game-winner with eight minutes left in regulation to snap a 1-1 tie and clinch the upset for the Eagles. The sophomore delayed before snapping a shot inside the left post from the right faceoff dot to beat Hawkey clean on the blocker side.
Hutsko and the Eagles take on top seed and No. 2 UMass on Friday night (March 22) at 7:30 p.m. in the Hockey East Semifinal at TD Garden. Northeastern and Boston University will meet in the first semifinal at 4 p.m. Both games will air live on NESNplus.
It will be the fourth straight semifinal appearance for BC and the 25th overall, which is tied for the league record. The Eagles, who are 17-7 all-time in the semifinal, have never faced Massachusetts beyond the quarterfinal round in tournament history.
