Hockey East Tabs Maddy McArthur For Defensive Player of the Week
February 04, 2019 | Women's Hockey
McArthur posted the lone shutout in the league last week with a blanking of Holy Cross.
WAKEFIELD, Mass. – The Hockey East Association announced Monday that Boston College women's hockey freshman Maddy McArthur has been named the league's Defensive Player of the Week after she backstopped the Eagles to shutout win over conference foe Holy Cross.
McArthur earned the shutout by making 16 saves to blank the Crusaders, 6-0, on Friday night at Kelley Rink. The win pushed BC's winning streak to six games and McArthur has now gone five consecutive contests without giving up more than two goals. The St. Catherines, Ontario native came up with nine stops against Holy Cross in the first frame to help the Eagles head into the first intermission with a 2-0 lead. She then turned away sevens hots over the final two frames to earn her the lone shutout in the league last week.
The rookie now has five shutouts on the year, good for a tied for second place in the nation in that category. McArthur now sits at 18-8-0 on the year, giving her the third-most wins in the country and tops among rookies.
This is McArthur's third weekly honor of the season, as she was named the league's Rookie of the Week on Nov. 19 and Oct. 22.
No. 7/7 Boston College will take on Harvard tomorrow at 8 p.m. in the first round of the Beanpot at the Bright-Landry Hockey Center.
