
Softball Heads South for Madeira Beach Tournament

Eagles begin spring break in the Sunshine State for five games this weekend
CHESTNUT HILL, Mass. – The Boston College softball team returns to action with five games this weekend at the Madeira Beach Tournament in Madeira Beach, Fla. The Eagles begin the weekend with two games on Friday against St. John's at 11 a.m. and Penn State at 4 p.m.

BC resumes play in the tournament Saturday with another doubleheader – 11 a.m. versus Central Michigan and 1:30 p.m. against Georgia Southern. The Eagles round out the weekend with Tennessee-Chattanooga Sunday at 9 a.m.

Boston College is 3-7 to open the 2019 season after two games last weekend at the Pirate Invitational in Greenville, N.C. BC split the weekend in Greenville, winning 1-0 against host East Carolina last Friday before losing 9-0 to No. 18 James Madison.

Freshman Ellie Mataya leads BC with a .375 batting average into the weekend. She has started eight of the nine games she has played in, totaling three RBI and a .417 slugging percentage so far during her rookie campaign.

Senior Lexi DiEmmanuele has started all 10 games in 2019 and ranks second on the club with a .355 batting average. She has three stolen bases on the season and needs just three more steals to become Boston College's career leader. Megan Cooley holds the career record for the Eagles with 86 stolen bases.

Sophomore Emme Martinez is batting .333 with two doubles and five RBI in 10 starts this season.
