Knight Selected as Hockey East Player of the Week
December 09, 2019 | Men's Hockey
WAKEFIELD, Mass. – Rookie goaltender Spencer Knight added another Hockey East award on Monday, earning Player of the Week honors from the league following another 2-0-0 week between the pipes.
Knight pushed his personal winning streak to nine games with a pair of victories in a home-and-home sweep of No. 9 Notre Dame. He allowed just one goal all weekend and posted a .981 save percentage in net.
The freshman registered a 26-save shutout on Friday night at Kelley Rink, the fourth in his first 14 NCAA starts. On Sunday, Knight stopped 27 of the 28 Irish shots he faced at Compton Family Ice Arena in a dominant 6-1 win for the Eagles in South Bend.
The Darien, Connecticut native is one of only five BC goaltenders with at least four shutouts in a single season. Among the national leaders, Knight is tied for first in shutouts and ranks sixth in SV% (.940), tied for sixth in winning percentage (.733), and eighth in GAA (1.73).
Knight was previously named the Hockey East Rookie of the Week (Nov. 18), Hockey East Rookie of the Month (November), and National Rookie of the Month (November) by the Hockey Commissioners' Association.
At the semester break, Boston College (11-4-0, 5-2-0 HEA) is tied with No. 1 Minnesota State for the second-longest active unbeaten streak in the nation (9) behind North Dakota (13).
