No. 7 Eagles Extend Win Streak with 6-1 Triumph at No. 9 Irish

SOUTH BEND, Ind. – Sophomore Jack McBain posted his first career multi-goal game as No. 7 Boston College swept a home-and-home series from No. 9 Notre Dame with a dominant 6-1 win at Compton Family Ice Arena on Sunday night.
The Eagles close the first half of the season on a nine-game winning streak with a record of 11-4-0 (5-2-0 HEA). The nine-game run is tied with Minnesota State for the second-longest active unbeaten streak in college hockey behind North Dakota.
The Fighting Irish dropped its fifth straight and fell to 8-6-2 (4-2-2 BIG 10).
BC out-scored the Irish 10-1 in the non-conference sweep, and it has out-scored opponents 42-9 during the winning streak.
David Cotton led four Eagles with multi-point performances as the senior captain became the 54th member of BC's 50-goal club. Cotton added a pair of assists while his linemate Julius Mattila had his second three-assist game of the season. Logan Hutsko gave the top line a seven-point night as the junior extended his career-high scoring streak to 11 games with a first period tally.Â
Aapeli Räsänen posted a goal and an assist in the third period, while rookie defenseman Marshall Warren added his third goal of the season in the final frame.
Classmate Spencer Knight pushed his personal winning streak to nine, stopping 27 of the 28 Notre Dame shots he faced.
Boston College finished the night 2-for-4 on the power play and 4-for-4 on the penalty kill, including 58 seconds of 5-on-3 in the first period. The Eagles closed the series a perfect 7-for-7 on the kill and have now scored at least one power play goal in every game of their win streak.

1st 0:36, BC Goal (1-0) • Mattila sent a pass across the zone to McBain as the trailer on a 3-on-2 and the sophomore ripped a shot through a screen to beat Cale Morris (21 saves) high glove side.Â
1st 3:11, BC Goal (2-0) • Cotton poked the puck to Mattila near the left goal line and the senior centered a feed to Hutsko for a forehand tap-in at the edge of the crease.
1st 17:50, BC Goal (3-0) • Notre Dame turned the puck over to Cotton as he picked off a pass in the right circle and quickly turned to beat Morris blocker side with a snap shot.
2nd 2:02, BC Goal (4-0) • From the right wing on the power play, Matt Boldy slid a pass down to McBain at the right doorstep. McBain spun to his forehand and was denied initially by Morris, but roofed the rebound for his second of the night.Â
2nd 17:59, ND Goal (4-1) • Alex Steeves' centering pass to Trevor Janicke in the slot popped up in the air as the forward spun and whacked a shot under Knight's pads to put the Irish on the board.
3rd 10:31, BC Goal (5-1) • Warren skated down the left wing on a 2-on-1, faked a pass to the weak side, and tucked a shot under the crossbar over Morris' right shoulder short side.Â
3rd 10:53, BC Goal (6-1) • Räsänen located his own rebound in the low slot and lifted a shot off the back bar for his eighth of the year. The play was initially ruled no goal but the call was reversed after video review.
