Bentley Announces Pair of Signees for 2020-21 Season

CHESTNUT HILL, Mass. – Boston College women's tennis head coach Nigel Bentley has announced two NLI signees who will join the program for the 2020-21 season: Sophia Edwards and Maria Aguiar.
"We have two amazing student-athletes coming to BC next fall," said Bentley. "Sophia and Maria are a perfect fit for our team. They work really hard in the classroom and are very talented on the tennis court. They have all the tools to be very successful college players competing at the highest level. They have powerful games and are exciting to watch. They are charming and delightful, and we are very glad they will be part of our future."
Sophia Edwards • 5'11 • Nokomis, Fla.
• Attends Pine View School and competes with The Oaks Club, both in Osprey, Fla.
• Ranked in the Top-5 in Florida in every USTA girls age group
• 2018 All-American College Combine Champion
• National Doubles Champion (16 & under), Florida Championship Finalist (18 & under), and Florida Doubles Champion (18 & under)
• Plans to major in biology
Maria Aguiar • 5'4 • San Juan, Puerto Rico
• Attends Academia Maria Reina in San Juan
• Five star recruit ranked as high as No. 30 nationally on the Tennis Recruiting Network
• Finalist in the Orange Bowl and Eddie Herr International Doubles in 2017
• Her uncle attended Boston College
• Plans to major in business accounting
Coming off its first NCAA Tournament berth since 1997, Boston College officially begins its spring season on Saturday, Jan. 18 with a trip to Dartmouth.Â
