December 24, 2019 | Men's Hockey
OSTRAVA, Czech Republic – BC rookie goaltender Spencer Knight has been named to the 23-man roster for the U.S. National Junior Team ahead of the 2020 IIHF World Junior Championship from Dec. 26, 2019 - Jan. 5, 2020 in Ostrava and Trinec, Czech Republic.
Former Eagles forward Oliver Wahlstrom, currently playing for the AHL's Bridgeport Sound Tigers, was also selected to the squad by USA Hockey. Knight and Wahlstrom were both members of Team USA's silver medal team at last year's World Junior Championships in British Columbia.Â
Knight ranks top-3 among Hockey East goaltenders in goals against average (1.73), save percentage (.940), wins (11) and shutouts (4). During conference play, Knight leads the league in both GAA and SV%. In November, he was recognized as the Hockey East Rookie of the Month and the National Rookie of the Month.Â
The U.S. enters the tournament having medaled in four consecutive World Junior Championships for the first time in U.S. history after earning gold in 2017, silver in 2019, and bronze in both 2018 and 2016. Team USA will play its preliminary round games in Ostrava against Group B opponents Canada, Czech Republic, Germany and Russia.
The first preliminary round game will come against Canada on Thursday (Dec. 26) at 1 p.m. ET. Quarterfinals will be split between the Ostrava and Trinec. The semifinal and medal games will be played at Ostravar Arena in Ostrava. All U.S. games and elimination games will be carried live on NHL Network.
