BC running back collects fifth player of the week award.
GREENSBORO, N.C. – Boston College's AJ Dillon and Zion Johnson were voted ACC Running Back of the Week and ACC Offensive Lineman of the Week following the Eagles' 26-19, bowl-clinching win at Pittsburgh. The award marks the fifth of the season for Dillon and third for Johnson.
Â
Dillon rushed for 178 yards on 32 carries, including a season-high 61-yard touchdown run against the Panthers. He went over 100 for the 20th time in his career and over 150 for the seventh time this season. Dillon put an exclamation point on the BC win by carrying the ball eight times and picking up four first downs on the final drive of the game to erase the final 5:26 on the clock in a one-score game as he added 47 yards.
Â
The award marks the eighth of Dillon's career. His eight career ACC weekly awards are the most by a running back in the last seven years. Dillon finished the regular season with 4,382 rushing yards; the most in BC history and fourth most in league history.
Â
Johnson, a Davidson transfer that played in a reserve role in each of BC's first six games, made his sixth consecutive start at left guard as an Eagle. He played all 79 snaps as the BC offensive line paved the way for 264 yards on the ground. Johnson led BC's o-line with a 94-percent grade, including six knockdown blocks and did not allow a pressure. The award is the fourth overall for a Boston College offensive lineman this season.
Â
Boston College improved to 6-6 with its win over Pittsburgh and will learn its bowl destination on Sunday, Dec. 8; the sixth bowl game in seven years.
