The volleyball team will honor six seniors before taking on NC State
CHESTNUT HILL, Mass. -- The Boston College volleyball team (19-11, 10-7 ACC) is set to host NC State (11-18, 6-11 ACC) for its final match of the regular season. The team will honor its six seniors, Cat Balido, Jane DeJarld, Carly Kutschke, Makenzie Morrison, Jill Strockis and Sophie West in a pregame ceremony. The leading class brought the team to unprecedented program heights under head coach Jason Kennedy, marking the teams' best overall and conference records since joining the ACC in 2005. Through their careers, the class has appeared in 1,945 sets through 572 matches and combined for 1,930 kills, 256 aces and 486 blocks.
The Eagles suffered their only two-loss conference weekend of the season at the hands of Virginia and Syracuse during their final road trip of the regular season. BC fell victim to strong defenses in both outings, being out-blocked by Virginia 16-3 and by Syracuse 21-8. Clare Naughton posted her second double-double of the season in the five-set match against Syracuse, putting up 10 kills and 10 digs. Four Eagles tallied double-digit kills, as Naughton was joined by Amaka Chukwujekwu (12), Strockis (10) and Balido (10).
While the Wolfpack hold a 12-10 all-time series edge, the Eagles took their first meeting of the season in a five-set thriller in Raleigh. The win snapped a four-season loss streak for the Eagles, having last defeated NC State on Nov. 6, 2015. Jewel Strawberry led the day, tallying a team-best 18 kills and 16 digs for a double-double. Chukwujekwu, Balido and Kutschke led the defensive effort, with Kutschke tallying two block solos and each totaling four on the day.
First serve is set for noon on Saturday, November 30 in Power Gym. The match will be featured on the ACC Network.
