Huskies Hold Off Eagles for Hockey East Win

The UConn Huskies scored early in the third period and then held off a BC comeback for a 2-1 win.
CHESTNUT HILL, Mass. – The UConn Huskies used a third-period goal from Briana Colangelo to hold off a comeback from the No. 6/6 Boston College women's hockey team for a 2-1 win on Friday afternoon at Kelley Rink.
Savannah Norcross opened the scoring midway through the first period to give the Eagles a 1-0 lead. The Huskies, though, would strike early in the second period and then found the back of the net six minutes into the final frame for a 2-1 lead. BC would go on to fire 20 shots on goal in the final frame and limit UConn to just two, but the visitors held off the attack.
Kelly Pickreign finished with 22 saves for BC while Morgan Fisher stopped 38 shots for UConn. The Eagles had the 39-24 lead in shots on goal while going 1-for-3 on the power play and keeping UConn to 0-for-5.

- 1st, 10:50 | 1-0, BC GOAL: From the left point, Cayla Barnes hit Kelly Browne with a pass below the goal line. Browne then centered the puck to Norcross who slammed it home from the slot for a power-play goal.
- 2nd, 2:32 | 1-1, UCONN GOAL: Kaitlyn Yearwood sent a pass across the blue line to Emily Reid, and Reid fired a wrister through traffic.
- 3rd, 6:04 | 1-2, UCONN GOAL: From the half wall, Catherine Crawley sent a pass back to the slot and Briana Colangelo corralled it and deked Pickreign for a finish at the right post.
- BC now holds a 36-17-10 all-time mark against UConn.
- Savannah Norcross' first-period tally marked her second career goal against UConn.
- Cayla Barnes now has five career assists against the Huskies … Barnes has registered at least one point in 10 of her 13 games played.
- BC's 20 shots on goal in the third period marked a season-high for a single period.
