
No. 7 BC Falls to No. 1 UNC, 6-3, in National Semifinal

WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. – The No. 7 Boston College field hockey team fell to No. 1 North Carolina, 6-3, in the national semifinal on Friday, Nov. 22 at Kentner Stadium.

Margo Carlin scored two of BC's three goals on the game. The goals were her 19th and 20th on the season, making her the fourth BC player ever to record 20 in a season.

BC opened the game with a goal just 54 seconds into the first period. Carlin inserted the ball and then stepped in receiving the ball back from Sky Caron before lifting the ball into the top right corner of the goal.

Seven minutes later, UNC's Riley Fulmer received a centered pass from Catherine Hayden to tie the game at the 6:44 mark.

Carlin then answered again, taking a long pass down the right side of the field. She then took the ball into the circle, beating two defenders, before lifting the ball over the goalkeeper and into the top left corner giving BC a 2-1 lead.

UNC then went on a five goal run throughout the rest of the game, with four goals from Erin Matson and one from Marissa Creatore.

Then, with 2:15 remaining in the fourth, Brigid Wood redirected a shot from Fusine Govaert on a penalty corner to draw one back, but the final score would be 6-3.

- Sarah Dwyer finished the season with an 11-4 record, 1.13 GAA and .760 save percentage. Her GAA is tied for the third-best in a single season at BC. She also had eight shutouts on the season, which is also tied for third in a single season. Dwyer ends her career with 14 shutouts, which are the sixth-most all-time at BC.
- Fusine Govaert picked up an assist, giving her eight on the season. She has career-highs in goals (8), assists (8) and points (24).
- Sky Caron had an assist, which gives her five on the year. She ends her sophomore campaign with four goals, five assists and 13 points on the year.
